- joelcNomadNot answering the question because I have a 2006 F-350 diesel. But if you would buy another truck, gas or diesel, what manufacturer?
- wrktfshExplorerNo, not unless I was to buy a huge 5’er. Which I doubt I’ll ever do.
Purchase cost, maintenance costs, fuel costs keep me from a diesel - JimK-NYExplorer IIBTW, a factor not yet mentioned is resale value. My 2010 was totalled in an accident and I was amazed at the insurance value. Diesel powered trucks really do well with depreciation. You can get back much of the extra cost upon resale.
- As long as I am pulling a trailer I will be driving a diesel. My buddy and I both have 2500 trucks. Mine a Dodge diesel. His a Chevy gasser. When we leave out on a trip he has to stop for fuel before I am down to half a tank. And I am pulling 4,000 lbs more trailer. Granted it doesn't cost him as much to fill up twice as it does me once.
- sbryanExplorer IIMy truck is a 2013 so not actually in the 2015-current group but yes, I'd buy this truck again in a heartbeat. The 6.7 diesel has been bullet proof, mileage has been good (average over the life of the vehicle so far is 18MPG, 13 with the camper on, 21 with it off, and 9 hauling the toyhauler. No way could I tow the toyhauler with a gasser. Last year the trip to Alaska was a pleasure with the diesel and camper, lots of mountains and back roads. The better mileage made worrying about finding fuel a thing of the past. Thr 400 mile range of the dielsel was a blessing.
- 3TVExplorerYou bet I would, even if I had nothing to tow or haul. The 935 lb ft of torque the new diesels are making is so much more fun to drive. In fact, it is about twice as much fun as the new gas engine trucks.
- edbehnkeExplorer IIjust depends on your needs. pulling 15K yes. pulling 7K heck no.
- BedlamModeratorI’m at the point of the upper limits of a gasser since I carry a heavy camper while towing a heavy trailer which is why I again chose a diesel. If my use requires less in the future I will go back to gas. I did replace my diesel car with a gasser but that had to do with the lack of choices and current upgrade costs because I do miss the fuel range of our VW.
- burningmanExplorer IIThe downhill braking provided by an exhaust brake is similar to the gas engine’s with its throttle closed. It’s just shutting off the air post-engine rather than pre-engine.
I would get a gas truck if I buy a new one. They’ve regulated the economy out of new diesels. - mbloofExplorerWhile it is unlikely that I'll ever need to replace the current truck, I'd go diesel again.
