- tinner12002ExplorerNope! If you look around, a lot of dealers actually have lifetime warranties included. Not sure about Ford though.
- AtleeExplorer III ended up buying, via the internet, a Ford ESP plan. Got it from a Ford dealer in Michigan. Tried to get my local dealer when I originally bought the truck to even come close to the internet price. He refused. His loss, the dealer in Michigan's gain.
I did it because of the twin turbo's on my Ecoboost plus all the computers used to run the truck now. About a year ago, a hand of full miles after the magic 36k mile marker, the throttle body failed. After the fix using the ESP, the ESP got 1/2 cheaper. - RedwoodcamperExplorerYes if it was a Ford. No if it was a Cummins.
- mtofell1ExplorerNever never never buy anything but a factory backed one of whatever brand you choose. The aftermarket warranties are notorious for screwing people. I've heard of a few success stories of some through credit unions and Costco but it's just not worth the risk. These aftermarket companies are geniuses at hiding ways out of just about everything in the fine print. Also, they regularly just go out of business leaving you SOL.
As for whether or not to buy - of course, it's a losing business model for consumers. All insurance is but most of us can't absorb the huge hit of something catastrophic so we pool our money together (and give a bunch to the administrating company along the way).
While I generally run from most warranties I did buy one on my Ram and am glad I did. As people have mentioned, these trucks are just so high tech and expensive to work on that it's becoming pretty scary to run with one without any coverage.
One thing I can tell you from my own experience is I do get a lot of piece of mind by having the warranty. If I ever hear a funny noise or think something is going wrong I honestly don't care. My biggest fear is being stranded somewhere with my RV out of cell phone range. Given what these trucks cost, the % of an extended warranty is not that much. - TargaExplorerIf it were a new diesel like the one you are looking at and you planned on keeping it past its standard warranty, I would purchase the exteneded warranty. I have seen the $16,000 engine repair bill on my work truck.
- fj12ryderExplorer IIINo.
- If you do purchase an extended warranty the Ford ESP plan is the only way to go.
I didn't purchase one on my Super Duty, but did purchase one for my wife's Ford Edge since it's loaded with various sensors/electronics. After 2.5 years we have not needed it so far. - ScottGNomadNo, I wont.
I paid for one on my Dodge when new - never paid for itself. That was the last time I will ever waste my moeny on any service plan and I have not bought one on any of the new cars I've purshased since then.
It's all about the odds. That's why those company's sell them; odds are they will make a fat profit from them. - LwiddisExplorer IINope. Extended warranties make sense for the....insurance company.
- thdExplorerI usually don't buy these plans, but I did when I purchased my '13 PSD. I purchased through my credit union on the advice of a Ford service manager. I paid a little over 1k for 100k miles of bumper to bumper coverage. With the cost of repairs on these new diesels, it was cheap piece of mind even if I never use it, which I haven't so far. 68k miles so far, no issues and loving my truck!
