Was leaning towards jayco or entegra 24b models with single large slide but found out they have slide problems. So currently thinking of winnebego 26a model with 3 slides.
Wife likes the idea of more room and not climbing up on the bed to sleep and the closet on our camper is up on top too.
My current truck/camper is about 25ft long so I am hoping going to 26-27 ft wouldn't be too bad for length.
Have electrc jacks and rear fastguns but 10min for loading/unloading is only in my dreams. I always support the front of the camper with cinder blocks and 2x6's and it takes me maybe 20min to unload and 35min to load back up.
Always liked the truck/camper model for its efficency but that isn't the main factor any more.
Don't do any off-road camping but half of it is primitive and the other half is very civilized. So don't need high clearance or 4x4.
I have a couple acres so parking shouldn't be an issue.
Registration is about $260 for 2 years for that size class c. Insurance might be about 1000/yr. I didn't insure my camper but will need at least liability on the motorhome.
But saving 25-30k will go a long ways to paying for the extra costs of an additional vehicle.
The 2017-18 models have the newer V-10 and 6-speed transmission and I think I am ok with that as I have the older 99 v-10 with 4-speed and have had no reliability issues with engine or transmission.
all good points. myself I will never go back to gas, as the savings in fuel alone pay for all the maintenance and such on my diesel, plus I like the longer range from the better fuel economy.
I used cinder blocks and 4x4's for the old one also, but I am going to build a much smarter and easier way to brace this one. the old one had hydraulic jacks so you can't leave pressure on thoes, so I am just going to build a box type to suport the front and let the rear jacks hold up the rear for this one.
for me a genny is a disadvantage, but thats just me, I don't like gennys, I go the solar route. but also, I don't need to run an AC either, otherwise it would be a portable genny that I would have to find a place to store. we got our 901sb two weeks ago and we spicificly said we didn't want an AC or microwave. we never use them in the 5th wheel haha. but lots of people have them and I can understand why. if I was camping in arazona or florada all the time I probably would also.
I don't know if the wife and myself are a little crazy, we have the 40 foot 5th wheel and for the last 5 years we have found we prefer the truck camper, thats why we bought one that is 32 years newer haha.
The first time I took our portable generator with us camping on our all family campout the 12v batteries gave out and the propane fridge needs a little 12 v power to run at all so it stopped working. So our generator saved the day and since then I don't mind dragging it along even if we don't use it. Our solar panel provided enough juice to keep the fridge running for the trip home.
