- MORSNOWNavigator IIIThis is one of my favorite threads also. I've learned about things that I probably wouldn't have even looked at. Also, folks are more apt to share a little information that they may not want to create a thread for.
- monicarick01ExplorerI have another thought, I just looked at the volume of posts and this thread it has thousands of times more action than any other thread (except photo, which is very similiar in manner to this thread). The idea of running a forum and making money on it is VOLUME, and this thread by far brings in the volume thus the money.
This thread is the "facebook" of this forum, it lets you tell your forum friends what you were up to today.
If you are so worried about this site go around and remove the threads that only have a few hundred post and leave the masses alone. - monicarick01ExplorerI agree with Jimh425 we all read what we want to read and I like to see new ideas come in everyday. This thread is a constant reminder to me of what I have to do and can do with my TC. And I enjoy it. I do not need post only specific to my brand of TC all TC are basically the same so what one person does to thier TC I can most likely do to mine and if I only followed the Artic fox or in your case the Avion thread I would miss out on good ideas and motivation.

I have very few friends that are into the camping thing and I like to read what others are doing and enjoy reading about their pride and joy. This and the DIY forum are daily reading for myself and I am not liking the direction of the last few posts. If you do not want to read it don't, seems simple enough to me. Not trying to evoke any responses, just my opinion. - Reddog1Explorer IIjimh425, I respectfully suggest you read my post again, I think you miss the point. As for hijacking the thread, not true. The posts pertain to this thread. I have read many of your post for several years, and I have no reason to think they "waste of bandwidth".
I too believe "we all can choose what we read", but I also believe the sponsor/owner has expectations of a Forum, and if they are not met the Forum will cease to be. If only one thread is the entire Forum, what is the point/purpose of the other Forums?
I am asking folks to give it a little thought.
Wayne - jimh406Explorer IIIHijacking this thread doesn't seem to be the way to discuss the tc forum. It doesn't seem the same standards are being used for each thread. We have blogs posted here, afterall. Picking on this thread just seems odd. I think its better if we don't scroll off threads over and over, so people can get help if they want it. In that respect, one really odd thread is better than 20 or 30 waste of bandwidth ones once a day.
As far as I know, we all can choose what we read, and nobody I've seen has suggested that anyone has to post on this thread. - Reddog1Explorer II

Several of you have made very legitimate thoughts on 67avion's post above. AS a Moderator, I have watched this thread and tried to evaluate its overall contribution to the RV.NET Forum. I have mixed emotions.I tend to think it takes away from the Forum as a whole. RV.NET has many forums. Although there are many more Forums on RV.NET, the following are the most common on this Thread:
Folks, I want to start a discussion. Respectfully.
As I write there have been only about a dozen posts to the Truck Camper Forum in the last day. That is a very low number, almost at the breaking point. At least, that is my opinion. This is perplexing when its clear that the truck camping community is growing by leaps and bounds. The baby boomers are retiring and making choices about their leisure time.
I started a thread that was specific to Avion Truck Campers. It has gone ballistic, with thousands of comments and page views. It is now the best resource anywhere for that SPECIFIC camper. I note that Amerigo has a long string as well.
Here's the point: I think that the traffic to the site, and the enjoyment of the Forum, is to see the interesting posts coming up every day. This string is almost buried with all sorts of unique and interesting material that is largely unaccessible. However, it is undeniable that this string is valuable. After all, look at the huge number of posts and views.
I don't really know the answer, but I suspect that sometimes a generalized thread such as this, can suck a great deal of the energy out of the general Forum. In other words there is a place for a specific interests such as the Avion and the Amerigo, but maybe not for an internal and generalized discussion.
I deeply emphasize that this is a respectful opinion, only meant to elicit some thoughtful discussion......if you like I will start another thread to discuss this, but I am interested in your opinions. Especially Mello Mike who does such wonderful work with his write ups.

These Forums were created at the request of members, so members could post and have discussions with these subjects without unrelated distractions from the subject. I think it is counter productive for and RV type to form clicks that ignore the other RV.NET forums. Folks come to RV.NET to gather information about their RV. To have the information poluted by non-related post has the potential of loosing the member. Loose enough members, and RV.NET will loose its value and cease to exist.
From a members position, I would seldom read this thread. As a member, I see it as not being very informative, just general ramblings from folks with nothing to do or say on the subject of TCs. That sounds harsh, but ask yourself if you or anyone else really want to know what I had for breakfast or if I washed my TC. I think not. How about my trip report. I have a great trip report, but I have no interest posting it here, so here is the link. Oh yea, there is advertising for widgets on that site, that is of greater value than what RV.NET has to offer. Why not post the trip report on RV.NET, and put a link on the other site to see it here?
I do not want to split hairs, edit, frequently move threads, edit post, or delete post as off topic, but I will say, overall this thread gives me reason to rethink those actions. I don't post this as to my likes or dislikes of a person or subject. My concern is for the overall health to the TC Forum, other Forums and RV.NET as a whole.
I ask each of you to think outside of self, and think about the Forum.

in a way, you are stepping on your own toe here. Why not start your own thread with your question in the subject Line?Buzzcut1 wrote:
I view this as the daily how ya doing, I'm up to this right now. the tc version of a twitter feed.
I think that is a very interesting idea. However Twitter is a passive messaging system. In other words its a "feed" that the recipient reads after someone Tweets it or reTweets it. 140 characters max.
Clearly, that is not what is happening here. This is an active posting system where people ask questions and others weigh in with their experience (or their opinions). If the posts are hidden, without an active presence on the front page of the Forum, then its difficult for the system to work.
In the case of Buzzcuts posts, which I have followed for years, he always has an interesting take on camping and the specific kinds of ways that it facilitates his interests. As I recall many of Buzzcut's posts have dealt with horse shows. What if they were buried inside of "What did you do today?"
Perhaps a Twitter feed is what this Forum needs. But, I don't think that this string really resembles that.
I agree with others and even a chuckle of agreement with my Buddy, DJ. To be honest some are very comfortable in beginning threads, while others just don't want to be hammered. So this type of thread serves that purpose. You could look at the fact that what is being posted might otherwise not make it to the forum.
As for your comment about your Avion threat, excellent I might add, is unwieldy. Just as is Sleepy's thread. Things are just too difficult to go back to look at, as it has grown too large, so it is being crushed by its own size.
The problem of creating a table of contents by page number, is that members have different settings for their page posting. Then when you throw in different portals, things don't synch up. Using date of post, makes the location easier to locate, for some.
Maybe if you started another thread on your question, you might hear from those that have visiting this thread.
