Just west of Mamphis, might drop down to US-70 for ten or fifteen mils to avoid construction and delays. There are warning signs that delays may occur. US-70 parallels I-40. I had very little delay both east-and west-bound in April, had no problem east-bound in early June, but a bit of a delay west-bound on my return trip. It was a bit frustrating to sit there in on aI-40 and watch the traffic whizzing along on nearby US-70 about 1/4 of a mile south of me...

GM - kohldadExplorer IIIDepends on where you are in Georgia, how much time you have, and if you want to see the country or just interstate.
Assuming you are convenient to I20 or I85 in GA, that you are not pressed for time, and enjoy seeing the country, my route would be:
Take I20 through Birmingham, pick up Hwy 82 in Tuscaloosa, after crossing the Mississippi River, pick up Hwy 65 to I530 and into Little Rock. From there run I40 westward to Flagstaff. Hwy 82 is mostly dual lane, better condition than most interstates and less traffic than a country road.
Make sure take an hour or two to drive through Petrified Forest, well worth the time and few additional miles. - TexasShadowExplorer II40 is the route to take.
- LipetsExplorer40 to Amarillo etc
