- GoHornsExplorerThere is construction on 35.. and especially in downtown Ft. Worth.
Personally, I would tough it out thru Dallas and take 75, which turns into 69 up to Big Cabin, Oklahoma... and then over to Springfield. We will be making this same trip towards the end of May.
FYI: We went up to Texoma on Saturday and they had 75 shut down completely in Melissa. All traffic diverted to the service road... what a mess... - adynacoExplorerIs the construction on I35W thru Ft Worth completed? I was told previously it was bad there.
- BB_TXNomadI-35W thru Ft Worth. Mid day. You will have traffic for a few miles before and after downtown. But that will be quicker and easier than meandering thru smaller highways, small towns, traffic lights, and low speed limits trying to avoid it.
- PawPaw_n_GramExplorerx47 for TX-31 -> TX-19 -> INP -> US-69 -> I-44 (or US-271 through Fort Smith)
Time wise it is about 2-2 1/2 hours longer (assuming no traffic delays in Dallas or Fort Worth or Oklahoma City - which would be unusual)
The all freeway route via 35W and I-44 is about 570 miles
The TX-31/TX-19/US-69/I-44 route is about 540 miles.
The TX-31/TX-19/US-271/Fort Smith route is about 575 miles - padredwNomadCan't say for quicker, but next time when that is not such an important factor:
Scoot over to Athens on TX 31, then up to Paris on TX 19/24.
At Paris join US 271/270 to Poteau, OK, around the bypass to OK 112 which heads straight into I 540 at Fort Smith, then I 49 to Joplin and I 44 on into Springfield.
For me, pulling a 34' fifth-wheel, this might be just a quick since I don't drive at full freeway speed anyway.
Anyway, this is just an alternate to be aware of. - cdcExplorerTake I-35 thru Ft Worth, TX and then the toll roads from Oklahoma City to Springfield. Much quicker and a better ride. The last time I was on US69 in Oklahoma it was so rough that I was thinking that the Dentist was going to be visited to check on my fillings.
- tatestExplorer IIThe quickest route is I-35 to OK City, I-44 to Springfield.
There are a lot of alternative routes, Texas has a lot good roads, Oklahoma a selection of bad ones. The shortest, probably, is I-35E into Dallas, US-75 out of Dallas to US-69, then US-69 to pick up I-44 near Craig, Oklahoma. However, US-69 goes through a lot of slow places.
To miss Dallas entirely, you could take Texas 31 to Athens, Texas 19 to Paris, US-271 to the Indian Nation Turnpike, connecting with US-69 near Savanna and on to I-44. I've used this route (not the Texas 31 part) for years to avoid Dallas on my way to Houston, but I don't fool myself that this is a quicker route. When I need to get to Houston in a single day, it is US-75 to Dallas, I-45 to Houston (or book a flight on Southwest). - azdryheatExplorerTry Google Maps and tell it to avoid highways. In your case take the 31 to the 19 in Athens. That'll get you past Dallas.
