East Coast home base(s) question.

Lived in NJ for most of my life, then Myrtle Beach, now moving to Va. LOve your travel idea! Just a head up. Campgrounds in the NE are not cheap. They are also less available. If you are planning to visit anywhere from NC north to Maine during the spring/summer/fall months, suggest you make reservations ASAP for your trip. They fill up fast, particularly over every weekend.

Great replies so far. We are in the planning stages so more stops are possible. Maybe not 16 but who knows?
We don't have a firm length of time either.
The start in the middle concept is intriguing but probably more expensive on gas?

6 to 8 monthlong stays is intriguing. Your timeframe of 6-8 months works if you start in the middle. Trying to imagine just one stop each month, so looking at what is within about 2 hours of a location.
Spring (May) start in Va, Tappahannock area. Williamsburg, Va. D.C. And Virginia Beach all within range.
June Jersey and NYC.
Although to stay in that one spot for a month in that area seems a bit much.
July Plymouth Ma,
Southern Boston, Cape Cod, Newpost all within reach.
August Portsmouth NH,
Maine fishing towns and Lobster, Northern Boston/Salem, Lake Winnepausaukee NH. Maybe even up to Portland.
September Burlington Vt
White Mtns, Mount Washington, Lake Champlain.
October Asheville NC
Skyline Dr, Blue Ridge Pkwy coming South, following color. Great Smokey Mountains NP, Over to Gatlinburg tn, Mount Mitchell, Boone NC.
November, Charleston SC
Easy runs into historic areas, Myrtle Beach and Savannah are easy day trips.
December Land of the Mouse House.

A lot of areas were skipped over and most would be better viewed by breaking each month in half and moving more often, but if planting the tt for a month at a time is the goal, these would be my picks.

RV parks are open longer than Mem Day- Labor Day. More like mid-late April to mid May thru mid Oct.

Lake George area in eastern NY. Cherry Hill Park near DC. Both areas are a tad $$, but offer plenty of day trips. IMO, week at each and move on.

Let's see - Starting in the easiest part first - the South - friendly people and a lot of Coastal and Mountain opportunities.

Florida itself might require at least three - Big, long state, so likely somewhere south - Gulf is easier to find Campsites so that would be #1. Naples then Central - #2. Orlando to the the Mouse - #3. Amelia Island area - #4. Hilton Head or Savanna would work - #5 Williamsburg, lot's to see and do in this area - #6 Washington DC - #7 NYC - just like a National Park, easy to spend a couple weeks in the area - #8 Boston - #9 Maine Now to head back down along the Mountains/Interior - #10 Upstate NY - Great Lakes Then - #11. Finger Lakes - #12 Pennsylvania will require a couple stops - N-S-E-W just so much and so different - #13. Maryland PanHandle Deep Creek/Rocky Gap - #14. Blue Ridge in Virginia/Charlottesville - #15. Asheville/Biltmore/Lake Toxaway - #16 Atlanta area.

OK that was only a Sample/Taste of the East Coast and we had 16 stops each requiring at least a week or more.

So while this is surly not the answer you were looking for it gives you a start to work from.

Wompatuck State Park DOES have elecric hookups, but only a central dump station and sporadic water faucets. Free spring fed water shed, delicious water!

Since you want to camp 6-8 month then CG's north of NC/TN are out of the picture because most of the CG in the northern states are only open between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

I'm like you - I live in Cleveland, OH. but my TT is parked (home port) in the Mayberry Campground in Mount Airy, NC. Mayberry is a REALLY NICE no frills CG open all year. Check their website for their really REASONABLE storage and campsite charges. The CG is located only a few minutes drive to motels, restaurants, and a Walmart in Mount Airy. If you'll be flying in from Idaho, the Winston-Salem airport is just 40 mi. away.

Mount Airy NC., is centrally located in the Southeast with excellent access to the interstate system (and cheap gas in VA). From Mount Airy, it's a one day drive to most east coast cities from PA/NJ down to Savannah, GA. A two day drive to central Florida, most Gulf Coast states, Ill., and NY.

Take a look at the Thousand Trails Zone Pass - NE and SE Zones. It's a great deal and you can make all of your reservations online and fill in your 7 days "out of the system" with state parks etc. It would work best if you entered the area just after Labor Day. (These parks are full in the summer) Maybe reserve July and August at other parks if TT is full. I love the East coast and spend a lot of time out there.

Good questions. I would say anything of interest from national monuments, memorials, Manhattan, Boston Washington DC the whole gamut. I would say that a couple hundred miles inland would be East Coast? Don't know yet?
If heading from North to South maybe May through December?
I know Highway 1 is about 2400 miles 8 home bases 300 miles apart?
I am looking for any advice but in the past we have enjoyed staying 3-4 weeks at a time.
