Gatlinburg to Sarasota

We are new to RVing, this year we have taken several small trips 500 miles and less. Planning a trip from Illinois to Gatlinburg Tn and then on down to Sarasota, FL. We have a 37 foot fifth wheel towed with a f350. Not sure of the best route to take from Gatlinburg to 75 South. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Not to crazy about driving thru Atlanta.

441 to 411 to 68 getting on I-75 at Sweetwater. Leaving before 9AM will let you go straight through Atlanta on 75 without any problems. Stay out of the R two lanes in Atlanta as there are several places where they become exits without much warning... starting and ending at I-285 bypass.
  • Avoid Atlanta even if have to go out of your way.

In 15+ years of going straight through Atlanta several times a year in a MH only once did I have stop and go traffic because of an accident. No, you do not try it during rush hour and if you are willing to put the pedal to the metal I use the HOV lane.
  • Well, to avoid Chattanooga, I would take beautiful US411 from Maryville, TN all the way to I-75.
No matter the time of day, I drive straight thru Atlanta. Just stay out of the right most lane. Sometimes it has to exit.
  • 441 to Macon and then I-75 south which gets packed in Florida. Its moves to Tampa unless there is accident. try to plan Tampa outside of rush hour. I cruise at 60 with our 37 ft 5th.
