Gilbert AZ to Pinetop -Cyclone Lake

I prefer the Payson route. Easier drive and far more scenic in my opinion. You'll be out of the hot desert and into cooler forest lands much faster. From Payson on you're in the mountains.

Highway 87 is mostly 4 lane. 260 is 2 lane with frequent passing lanes except for a stretch up the mogollon rim 1/2 way to Heber which is 4 lane.

We've taken our 5th wheels through the SRC several times with no issues. We always go through Globe.

But checking Google Maps it doesn't seem to matter which route you take as they are similar distances and time.

Thru globe you have to take 60, thru the salt river canyon. How good is your mountain driving skills?
Take a good look a map to see the incline up/down and the length.
My skills are great, so doing it does not faze me.

Payson, really easier then the canyon.
