Headed to Ft Payne, AL from FL

We did the suggested route 1 time coming from Stone Mtn. to Desoto thru Rome, Ga. Pretty straight forward, then a easy climb up the Mtn. to Desoto. We've been there several times but always coming from the South. It's been 10yrs. at least since we've been but the county was dry so come prepared if need be.

I went from Williston Crossings to 19 up to I10 to 231 and spent the night at Deer Run near Troy then on to 65 to 59 and Desoto the next day. Both Deer Run ans Desoto were great. Easy drive all the way.

Only a hour and a half from my home. I live beside I75. I would take I75 to exit 306 I believe. Adairsville 140 exit. West on 140 to highway 27 on the north side of Rome.Right on 27 to Summerville Ga. Then left after crossing RR to Menlow Ga. Left on 148 at base of Lookout mountain to hwy 35 in Ala. North on 35 past Little River Canyon and right to go to park. If you want pm me and I can give better directions. This is a easy run with only 1 hill to climb.

Take GA-20 from Cartersville thru Rome into AL. 20 will turn into AL-9, Then take AL-35 toward Fort Payne. On top of the mountain take Desoto Parkway north to the park. Avoid Desoto Parkway north of the park towing, narrow and crooked.
If you decide to go thru Summerville Google's directions are good, that is the way I go. But E River and Alpine roads are very rough, but wide and only one sharp turn. GA-48 up the mountain is also on of the steeper highways up Lookout Mountain

One bit of advice AVOID Atlanta.
