The Lota-Burger is good, lot of good Mexican food, Magdalena to many tickets.

The hill from Magdalena to Soccorro is steep but not real bad. Been down it with cattle trucks and loads of grain and produce for years.

Having driven US-191 from Alpine South, I would not recommend driving it with your Motor Home pulling a toad. If you want to pick up I-10 near Wilcox, take US-180 from Alpine and NM-78 back to US-191 at Three Way. We drove US-180 recently from Deming to Reserve and portions are a little rough. If you are headed East on I-10, US-60 from Springerville to I-25 at Socorro is a great drive and a pretty good road.

191 in an RV - forget it!

Highway 180/191 south of Alpine used to be called Route 666, nicknamed the Devils Highway for good reason!

We did it from Alpine south with our 40' motorhome one October...good thing we only saw a handful of vehicles...we had to take up more than our share of pavement in some of the turns. . . We absolutely love mountain roads but this one is definitely NOT recommended with a big rig.

I went up it in 1976 on my 1975 Gold Wing, late April, hailed like hell, yes I married the lady with me, its now over 30 years later, we do go down it now and than, we have had a summer home in Alpine since 1977.
