Hwy 38 from I 5 to Florence Oregon?

We usually take I 5 to the Beltline in Eugene to Florence. Coming from Seven Feathers, taking hwy 38 would save 40 miles, but takes about H the same amount of time. Is 38 a big rig friendly route? Thanks!

Coming out of 7 Feathers RV park, I go north to 138 over to 38. Good RV route and scenic.

I took hwy 38 a couple years ago. Gorgeous drive! Especially the second half, between the rock face and the river.

It's a smaller road than 126. Definitely off the beaten path. I liked it better for that reason.

There's a tiny rv park about halfway, right on the river, mostly seasonal locals I think. Super cheap PA price, highly recommended. Hairpin turn to get in, but I saw a big rig in there.
  • I've driven Hwy 126-Eugene/Florence as well as Hwy 38, both are good roads but does seem like fewer turn outs on 38 if you are behind a slow vehicle or if you want to pull out. We took it with our Motorhome and a 16' ATV trailer, going both routes - really is a toss up. The plus is you avoid Beltline and the Eugene traffic, downside is few more log trucks on 38.
  • Take 138 at Sutherlin to 38 to Florence. We've done it multiple times with our 40' motorhome. It's a popular route for RVers and best done during the week for less traffic. Friday is bad.
