I-75 Northbound Through Cincinnati

Next week I will be going through Cincinnati northbound on I-75 around 3:00 pm on a weekday. A few weeks ago when I was southbound around the same time I noticed a significant back up northbound in the construction area. I do not have a lot of choice on what time I will be going through so should I just steel myself to the congestion and go straight through or does anyone local have any suggestions of an alternate route? I am heading to the Franklin OH area.
  • Lexington to Dayton via I-75 is 136 miles. Lexington to Dayton going around on I-275 E is 152 miles. An extra 16 miles. And the semis go through town on I-75. I'd go around.
  • I live in Dayton and always just roll 75 straight through. It's never that bad unless you get into rush hour, and even then I still stay on 75. You aren't going to save any considerable amount of time going 275.
  • Thanks for the comments folks. I have always gone straight through in the past but I think I will try the I-275 east loop this time instead.
  • We usually do the I-275 because north or southbound, we find the FMCA free FHU too good to pass up even if it is only 5 hours from home.

  • First rule..never listen to a Buckeye ;) (kidding)

Take the I-275 loop, you can thank me later. lol

Its a bit longer but no traffic! You may hit traffic through Florence, KY before you get to I-275E but that will most like be it.
  • Go through Cincy often. We almost always use I-75 going north or south unless we it's Friday rush hour going south or the radio says there's a problem. Other routes add considerable time and sometimes traffic is just as bad.
  • Native Cincinnatian here. We have three major interstates (I-71, I-75 and I-74) feeding traffic into/through town. The trucks normally go straight through on I-75, either because its shorter or they have deliveries in town. I'd take I-275E around Cincinnati and pick it up again north of downtown. East is shorter than West.
BTW, Cincinnati expressways are always under construction/repair. Grin and bear it. At least 3PM is better than 5 PM. I'm pretty sure nobody actually lives in Cincinnati. We all live in the suburbs, outside the I-275 loop.
OTOH, if you stay on I-75 you'll be able to see the Ohio River through the holes in the deck of the Brent Spence Bridge. Say that three times fast without spraining your tongue. :)
