Jersey Shore to Quechee St Park

Towing a 35 foot TT. Would like to avoid traffic, steep hills, narrow roads.

Taking GSP North in NJ to Quichee St Park in Vt, on a Firday afternoon. It looks like the 2 main choices are:

GSP -> 87 North to Glenns Falls Rt 9N -> Rt 32W -> Rt R4N (then west).

This is quite a bit of time on Rt 4. The main reason for this rt would be to stay further west to avoid traffic.

The other would be GSP->87 East -> 287 E -> 684N -> 84E to 91N -> 4W.

There are also some alternative routes - such as Rt 7 through the green mountains.

Any advice, roads to avoid, friday afternoon/evening bad traffic areas is greatly appreciated.
  • Been there, done that, also lived in VT. IMHO, use second choice. While a scenic route, your first selection will take a lot longer.

    One small tweak to your trip. Get off 84 at exit 27 - 691 toward Meriden. It will take you to 91 and avoid the nightmare of downtown Hartford on 84.

    Some folks like to miss the Tappan Zee by staying north on the Thruway to Newburgh, catching 84 there.

    Travel safe. Enjoy VT. Quechee is a great area.
  • Thanks for the quick reply and the route tweaks. We'll probably take your advice and will likely avoid the Tappan Zee as well.
