Mexico Safety Chart

I got requested to repost this after it was accidentally deleted

I wonder why - to repost. Entertaining, meaningful, relevant to RV-ing, something else?

The topic was (quickly) closed after heavy editing, as I've just noticed. An indication to me that it shouldn't have been opened, in the first place, but, since it was closed - immediately after editing... here we are.

To those who don't know, - this flowchart has been floating around the web for a while, mostly on Cancun blogs. Looks much like a tourism promoter's product, not something to be taken seriously, and people on other blogs had enough wisdom not to. Well, blogs and forums are apparently not all created equal. Definitely not all the forums of RV.net. Love this place :). Cheers.
  • Add this It is not wise to splash on A-1 then slither close to the bars and taunt the tigers.

I've yet to hear of a modest tow rig or toad getting jacked. That much overpublicized story of a southern California man having an issue in "Downtown Ixtapa", occurred at a "Ladies Bar" at 4AM.

When news stories occur, notice that Mexican news calibrates story location by the municipio (County) Years ago the headlines screamed ("atrocity HERMOSILLO!). Further micro-research ended up on a dirt track 72 miles to the southeast of the city. A story about a small town I passed through often "Cerro de Ortega" revealed only in small print below an image that the "incident" occurred 5.5 miles East another two tire dirt track brecha.

About ten years ago I went with Jesus' family (sister, husband and kids to zihua). After parking poor Eduardo was stared down by an acne scarred badass. He ignored them and the proceeded to the beach. Not me. I wanted to beard the lion.

The guy was driving a jacked-up Lincoln Navigator. Shiny black with murals and baby buggy wheels.

I walked up to the SUV. He stiffened and one of this passengers started walking back from the palm frond restaurant. Had I not stopped I would have been invisible.

    Can't have that

Eduardo is my friend and also has the mango orchard next to mine.

I pointed at his mural and asked "Es Regional?"

He nodded yes, and his frown turned into a straight line

I then pointed at his (20"?) gold spoke wheels and asked "Oro puro?". The straight line turned into a very slight smile. I wished him a "Buenas Dias" and walked toward the restaurant. The family intercepted me just short of our table.

"Do you know who that was !?!"

    (I can imagine)

A year later he was apprehended in Acapulco. His mug, the Lincoln, everything was plastered on page 1.

My friends in Zihuatanejo laughed their rears off...

The moral of this story is 99.99% tourists are totally invisible to feared narco cartel bosses. They actually reject contact unless somebody would do something beyond stupid. Unimaginably outrageous.

Just for your information, as the family was disembarking from the car, I happened to look over at the then opened door of the Navigator. On the rear seat pointed away from me was an assault rifle. I turned away acting disinterested. One of their men spread a blanket over it.

A hispanic looking man could have never gotten away with what I pulled.

Maria clutched my arm tight as I sat down and said "One poquito momento de diversion"

    A little moment of fun

The chart above was fun for a chuckle -- what I offered is reality. Relax and have fun. I spare the A-1 for a juicy beefsteak.
  • It was closed because it became political, and off topic. Several posts were deleted when it was closed.

Navagator also lives in Mexico and needs to change his location!
  • I see some of the same posters from the one that got closed. Same flow chart that I still find interesting.
A disclosure from the moderator that he/she lives in Mexico.
Ok, I'll disclose that I visit Mexico every year for the last 45 years by rv and cruise ship and I'm of mexican descent.
So maybe the last post was closed because of that last post that was made by....................wait! Me. hmmm
  • You need to look at this from the point of view of a Mexican.

    The first caption:

    Are you joining a cartel?

Obviously not, no one on is right mind will do that, this is the first clue that it is funny, unless you want to work for the Beltran Leiva cartel and then you are out of luck.

The next one is simple, most tourists will not venture to far away from the main turista areas, right? they flew in.

The other tree are very funny in the context, is it on a tourist area on a guided tour? that is safe!
Are you going to get drunk out of your mind? most RV savvy folks do not drink to oblivion, only the kids on spring break!

    And the last one

Are you picking fights with the cartels? only an idiot will do that!

I have shown this to friends and family and they all laugh at the message, do not over analyze this it is actually funny in a cainda true sense, so do not go to far from it.

And yes, you are safe in Mexico!

  • It was preciously closed because of inappropriate comments.

Personally, I find it to be amusing and true!

Let's see how long it lasts this time. Please be good.

For the record, the moderator lives in Mexico, has no intention of returning to the US, is in a tourist location (Zihuatanejo) and proud of it!!!
  • The authors are not RV'ers, the post is not political, but it does touch on being an person in Mexico, (they're safety). Does it rate being a post here? Wrong question- it is a joke to liven up a slow summer. It becomes a problem if someone IS planning on "something to do" in Mexico. But that's not us. No problem then?

Definitely looks like made by somebody who is living in Mexico and/or has vested interest in tourism there. This also makes it hypocritical. Whoever wrote this joke, is not a tourist living on resort. Neither am I, or Tequila, or forum moderators.

Didn't realize that my reminder about expats being robbed and murdered - literally days before this chart was posted - fell into category of nasty responses. Unless, of course, it was deleted "accidentally". Hey, it's better not to know about anything bad, don't-worry-be-happy :)...

To my observations, most Mexicans don't make light of their work or their living.

    Roger and out.
  • It probably was produced by someone promoting Mexican tourism...

That said, it's pretty much correct.
