Next Exit 2016

A very popular highway information book for RVers, the Next Exit, is now available in the 2016 version from Amazon (possibly others) for $15.25.
  • Yup. Just scroll with your fingers and as a user of both the book and the IExit, IExit is much easier to use to find what's at an exit 100, 200 or more miles up the road - fuel, food, campgrounds, motels, rest areas etc together with which direction and how far they are from the exit. If you are looking, for example, for a motel at the exit, you will see how many are there and which ones and if you tap the phone icon next to the name, your phone will call that motel. In addition to the map which will accompany that motel's listing, you can tap an icon for detailed driving instructions, another icon to access their web site if you want more info than the amenities list provided. Ditto for fuel, food etc. Another plus - with the book, you need to spend a minute or two to find the right page for your 'start'. With the app, the default is that when you open the app and you are on the interstate, it will automatically open to the right interstate and your exact current location on it. You still have the ability, if you wish, to tell the app what interstate to use and where to start in the event you want to look at a route while you are still in your home kitchen.

Download it (it's free if I remember right and once you have it, it is updated automatically - no new version to buy every year or two) and have your navigator use it next time you travel somewhere on an interstate.
  • The one thing I liked about the book form was it was easy for the copilot to look at places a hundred miles up the road for planning fuel stops well before we needed it. Does the app make it easy to do that?
  • For most of the years of our fulltiming, Next Exit was the 'go to' tool when traveling the interstates. We supplemented that with a Truckers Fuel Stop guide for other highways. We fueled diesel on both sides of our truck and having a satellite pump was a major plus.

The discontinuance of Next Exit for some years and the technology improvements have changed things. IExit has totally replaced the need for an interstate guide. Off the interstate the voice activated Google will find anything I want "near me" or "in X". When I want a truck stop, I just use my Garmin GPS voice command to "find category" then "find truck stop" "along route", pick one and then command "navigate" and my route is amended with a new stop, directions, distance to and estimated travel time. Now, traveling solo, voice activated devices make things easier than turning pages. JMO
  • You might also check out "Road Ahead" for a smart phone app. Finds location and direction of travel.

Now, does this list the hwys by State or is it listed by the numerical interstates??

    By state with interstates numerically

    Thanks

I have it in app form on my iPhone. (I EXIT) One price and never have to buy it again. And it is much easier to use. Open it up and it atomatically finds your location on the interstate. No more paging through the book looking for that information. The only thing it does not show is the red RV friendly parking at each exit.

Thanks for posting this! Very useful and better than a book IMHO. Its for Android also.

Saw this on their web site: "We will be launching a dedicated app for RVers on iOS soon as well. We’ve got a lot of Android news to announce soon, starting with a big update to iExit for Android."
