Regarding the Admin Post on acceptable topics for this forum

With that, I'm closing this thread now.

With that being said, I usually do allow posts from RVers regarding situations they may encounter, note that "usually" is the key word.

Posts quoting, referencing etc. news about cartels, killings, etc. that have no bearing on RVing specifically will continue to be deleted.

Each post/thread is evaluated on it's own merit.

Dear Mr 4x4dodger.

I am sorry that I hammered you so hard, my wife is of German decent and was born in Mexico, we speak to her brother or her nice on a weekly basis, and get real updates on what is going on, yes it is troublesome, about the same as San Diego.

There has been one dead person per night by gun shoot and at least four persons beaten to death in the current year in the County of San Diego.

Is the County and the City of San Diego safe, yes most of these crimes take place late at night, most are narco gang related, most tourists are asleep in the various RV parks and not in the bad part of town where the gangs claim turf.

This section has had a number of posts that were assaulted by persons with little or no knowledge of the situations in Mexico, and gave us their narrow minded one sided bigoted view.

Thanks to those that gave a glimmer of hope that there at least is a diversity of opinion on this particular forum. Thanks for speaking out and for the more welcoming attitude.

Please understand that my original post was aimed at the Moderator/Admin in an effort to revise the statement. I agree that political rants and too much emphasis on one topic can be boring. And are probably not appropriate.

I dont personally feel the need for seeking safety advice from this forum as I have spent a good deal of my life overseas in developing countries. My post was essentially a plea for a bit more openness so one could follow recent trends, particularly dodgy campgrounds (crime-wise) and other similar topics.

My decision to go or not to go to Mexico or any other country, would never solely rest upon information from an internet forum. But the information from those in place can be a PART of gathering good information about a destination.

I hope this clears up my intentions and puts this discussion to rest. (although I would like to hear from the Admin)

RV.net consists primarily of pickup truck and motorhome owners who have a more narrowly defined focus and more mobile material goods at stake.

The safety issues will always be of concern in any country.
The media in Mexico is just like the US and broadcasts a continuous stream of fear.
That said, I think the world is a more dangerous place due to the media continually producing shows of violence (Ring fighting is popular in Nepal), crime investigation, etc.

How's this for real time:
Hundreds of American and Canadians cross the border EVERYDAY into Los Algodones, MX for dental work - crowns, implants, veneers, eyeglasses, etc.

Lets assume that you are a person with a reasonable understanding of how quickly people are, in general, to complain about ANYTHING on the internet.

I personally witnessed hundreds of US to Mexico border crossings yesterday. We stayed overnight right at the parking lot by the border crossing. HUNDREDS of cars lined up like rush hour to enter the parking lot - to park - and then walk across the border into Mexico.

Consider that this "event" has been happening daily (well, not daily since the summer months are brutally hot) for many years.
Precisely, how many crimes have you heard of?????
How many horror stories have you heard of dental atrocities?
People are quick to complain, remember?

The topic of "safety" actually becomes a bit BORING and DROLL to the experienced traveler.
Even so, "safety" is a natural question. . .but please, lets not beat it to death.

RV.net is simply a forum - and there are many thousands of travelers that do not indulge their time in this minescule internet corner.

RV.net does a pretty good job. Although I sometimes think that the "moderators" should act more like "editors" and do more "editing" even though many would call it censure.

I do not suggest censorship, what has happened in the past blogs when an article has appeared in the news that is more geared to scandalous tabloids rather than real facts, it immediately generates a stream of negative comments that do not have any helpful use for travelling South.

If there is a real safety issue we will of course mention it, normally RVERS in general tend to stay in well known tourist areas that the bad elements generally do not bother with, what I am saying is that those persons with little information and those that do not like Mexicans or South Americans and use this area to show us their bigotry, is what this blog does not need, right at this moment it is not wise to travel from Mexico City to Acapulco by the toll road or the libre.

It is the same as if we where to discus the safety of traveling to San Diego, Washington D.C., Chicago, Calgary, etc. etc. If you can't be aware of your surroundings, trouble will find you, before you find it.

It happens all the time that something is reported in the news and commented in this blog and the trolls come out of the wood works with the negative comments and bigotry.

You do not read derogatory comments about cities in Canada or the U.S.A. when there is a shooting at a movie theater or a school in these blogs, do you?

As for safety issues yes we will report them for the benefit of all.

I do not like to hear negative comments about my country, the United States of America, and yes we have our flaws like every other country in the planet.

Please accept my apologies if I miss interpreted your comment, there have been to many chirping in with nasty comments without any base or knowledge of the country.
