roadside assistance/towing

I post in the T/c section but not a lot of response. Looks like the stars are alining and I will be leaving for alaska soon. I have a truck with TC. I have road side assist and towing but only up to $100. I am guessing I may need more. When I do a search on the forum they mostly refer to MH. Wondering if I should look into a good sam or similar for better service and coverage. I had the rig gone through but you never know. Truck is an 02 chevy 3/4 so it not like parts and working knowledge would come from mars. Its pretty popular stuff.

We have the Good Sam's coverage and may have to use it. Somehow we neglected to get new tires for our Tundra prior to leaving Hattiesburg, MS. We are now in Whitehorse and will chance continuing to Anchorage before getting new tires. We really like the Walmart/Sams tire warranty and also the price. A couple of years ago when we were about 30 miles outside Soldatna, we had a flat on our trailer and the jack broke. We were on a lightly traveled road and even though I knew we did not have active Good Sam's coverage, I called them and asked the question as to who they would have called, had we had coverage. They gave me the info and we called and got very quick service. Our auto insurance ended up picking up most of the charge, but I will never again be without Good Sam's. I have since used at home on a personal vehicle problem. Cross your fingers that we don't need it this trip.

hr0082, you are confirming my experience with Good Sam. They have a quickly accessible data base of garages to call, wherever there is a road in N. Am.

  • We have Good Sam. In 2009 has a blowout on the motorhome between Steward and Anchorage. They had a service truck sent out from Soldotna, after hours, and about 160 miles roundtrip, to charge it.

  • I have Good Sam and found they had garages on their list in areas others don't bother about.

My experience and impression of CAA and clones is that they have less coverage, with the exception of BCAA.

I have known those with bigger rigs to do fairly well with Coach Net.

BTW I have a TC and used to live in Newfoundland.

  • We have Good Sam. We had a dead battery and were locked out of our truck in Cardston, Alberta, CA this spring. Called Good Sam and within 15 minutes a locksmith was there. He opened the door and gave me a jump start and was gone in under 30 minutes. This is NOT an endorsement of Good Sam as opposed to any other service, only a report of our experience.
  • I count on Coach-Net and wouldn't on Good Sam. That's just me. You'll find supporters for Good Sam here too.
  • A $100 towing credit is of pretty much no value up here. I've always taken the chance and have never had to be towed more than 10 miles, but you may be a more cautious fellow. Even AAA (BCAA in my case) has some good plans that work for a TC.
