- DrewEExplorer IIAre you talking in New York? Its basically built to interstate standards and is a nice enough road; should be no problem with an RV. As I recall, parts of it are pretty sparsely populated and fuel is sometimes a little bit scarse.
(On a slightly related tangent, I vividly remember one time I drove that section, about twenty years ago. I was going to get together with a friend in the NYC area for New Year's Day; unfortunately, my not new car had developed a broken thermostat, stuck open, and it was a bitterly cold spell that winter. I was barely able to keep the car interior much above freezing, even with a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator, and drove with my legs huddled under a sleeping bag.) - David_and_ChrisExplorerIf you give me the route I'll be able to let you know? Heading south to 84 then to 95? 81 to 88 to 90 to 95?
David - RobWNYExplorerThe road is fine. 5th Wheel of any size won't have issues but there are no rest areas and very few places to stop and use a restroom. Also limited areas to get fuel and cell service is non existent in several spots regardless of carrier near the Catskill mountains. If you stop in the Binghamton area to get fuel and use the facilities you'll be fine. Pretty scenic down that way too. Obviously when you get close to NYC you'll have a lot more traffic and a lot more options for fuel, rest areas and facilities.
- Terry_25ExplorerIf you're talking about I81 to US17 at Winchester, VA over to I95 at Fredericksburg, it's a good road and popular route for RVs to bypass Balto and D.C.
- K_CharlesExplorerWe have taken US17 from I81 all the way to FL. There are some towns but the drive is fine in any size rig.
- AirdaileExplorerBeautiful drive. Mostly 2 lane. Way better than fighting DC traffic.

Agree! Always take that route when going to/from N.C. Only problem is a few roller coaster hills a few miles south of Winchester. Other than that, MUCH better than I95 through D.C. and Baltimore.
