Hi! Still somewhat of a newbie. We've done quite a few trips in the Upstate NY area....not too far from home...3 hours tops.We are planning our longest trip yet down to New Gretna, NJ.(about 5.5 hours) How do I find out which are the best roads to take? Our F350 diesel has Commercial plates. Is there a navigation device/website that offers directions for commercial plates? Mapquest is showing I81 down to I476..those 2 roads will not be an issue. Next steps are I276E toll road into NJ...(not familiar with this road)and then a bunch of other roads I'm not familiar with. How can I find out if these roads have any low bridges??Thanks for any help/advice.

There may be a better route, but I know from experience that there are no bridge/tunnel issues on this route. Commercial trucks are allowed on the Garden State Parkway south of exit 105 so you will be OK.

476 to 76 east. Cross the Walt Whitman Bridge, stay on 76 to 42 south... that turns into the AC expressway... hop on the Garden State Parkway south

I'm further north in NJ and going through Syracuse in August to 1000 islands. Reversing my route, I-81 to I-380 to I-80 to I-287 to GSP to New Gretna. No issues with bridges, but there is always the NJ traffic to deal with.Enjoy

I476 is the PA Turnpike. No issues with low bridges or tunnels.

A possible route that I am familiar with would be to take the NJ Turnpike north after the bridge into NJ to I195 east to the Garden State parkway south to New Gretna. There may be a better route, but I know from experience that there are no bridge/tunnel issues on this route. Commercial trucks are allowed on the Garden State Parkway south of exit 105 so you will be OK.

Esyers, I do that route without the fifth wheel all of the time since I have family in Staten Island and Clark, NJ. Will I hit the part of GSP that doesn't allow commercial plates??

Have fun in Alex Bay! Be sure to go to Boldt Castle!!

If you want to follow the above route and be sure your commercial plates won't be an issue, get off I287 to the NJ Turnpike south to I195 east to the GSP. The truck restriction on the GSP is north of Eatontown and I195 comes in south of there. Another alternate I considered suggesting is route 18 south from the Turnpike but portions of that road for a few miles south of the New Brunswick area can be a traffic nightmare.

BTW we visited Bolt Castle a few years back. Amazing what can be done when money is no object!
