Just in case they start treating Covid like Yellow Fever, when you are vaccinated keep any and all paperwork they give you. I would also get a yellow card (international certificate of vaccination or prophylaxis) filled out if they have the time. That should use up 1 minute of the 15 minute wait time for bad reactions. Get the yellow card from your local health department before you go for the vaccination.

Just like Yellow Fever, the vaccinated are allowed to cross borders. Maybe so for Covid also.

The “feel” around here is, the boarder will not open until next year (2022) at the earliest. This C-19 is really taking off now and a lot of the First Nation areas of Canada are getting hit hard and they are high on our list of groups that will be taken care of first. Hopefully it will happen in the coming months, however from what our friends up north are saying, they are not excited about seeing out of Province travelers let alone out of country.

We Californians are very limited in our travel. No way I’d be able to get near the Canadian border now.

FWIW, using 2020 to project for 2021....

- No worries about getting on/in/aboard the "tourist" activities that do operate in AK
- Lodging is easier to find
- Local RV rental is not booked up as much as usual...but that was pretty spiky last year
- 50% of more of the usual "tourist" activities will be shut down but there are still options for most activities, maybe just not the vendors one would expect.

Based on that latter part of 2020 and limited discussion recently, there will be some reduction in the "self-imposed" distancing and "who can come" restrictions by the local vendors. Some State (and more likely to have an impact-local) mandates will still be in place on the "tourist" activities.

Rumblings I hear are that the Canadian Border will essentially remain closed through 2021, that cruise lines aren't coming to AK, and that several well known flight tour operations won't open in 2021.

I think things will take a very long time to financially recover.

The last Canadian press release I saw on this recently seemed to say they really think the borders will remain closed thru 2021. If so, the other choices are to fly and rent an RV there or ship your RV from Seattle to Anchorage. At that point you *may* be allowed to drive it back thru Canada to return to the Lower 48. Previously this has been allowed to let US Citizens return to their homes - if they have proof that their destination is their primary home. That could always change though, and some who have made the trip this way say it was the worse experience they've even had on the Alaska Highway - you're given a short time for transit, can't visit anything or anyplace along the way and are only allowed to stop for fuel or short stays where you're required to remain in your RV.

Bad economic times for Alaska which relies on tourism, fishing and the gas & oil industry. (The population is declining as people are leaving too.) With the borders closed tourism is in the dumps and with the low energy prices and fracking in the Lower 49 the oil industry is on life support there.

There is a few border crossings in Alberta and British Columbia for travel to Alaska at last report. You must travel on designated routes and are restricted on travel time.

You have to establish that it's an essential trip and yes, they are questioning it.

Vacationing in Alaska doesn't qualify as essential.

Probably looking at summer 2022.
