Any nice parks in Amarillo and where to visit?

We have a couple of spare days that we will be spending in Amarillo, TX

Never been before so are there any nice RV parks around and any cool places to visit?

Can not agree enough with that. FYI Palo Duro Canyon is the second largest canyon in the US and you can camp down in it.

Not sure if it is still standing, but coming in from the east on I 40 there is the Leaning Water Tower of Amarillo as I used to call it.:B

A water tower at an old abandon truck stop in the middle of nowhere that was leaning and only held up by it's center pipe.

Also isn't the "Tallest Cross in the Northern Hemisphere"
right on I40 there also.

We've stopped there many times in route to the beautiful state of Colorado, and always find it welcoming and beautiful in its own way. But heck, I even like Dumas!

Big Texan Steak House...must do it. A little remaining piece of Americana. Palo Duro - fabulous. And I think there's even a little RV museum there if you're interested.

I think it's fun just to find the beauty in every place we encounter.

After many trips to Amarillo I definitely recommend Fort Amarillo rv park. Great peoplr and a very large neat store that will keep your wife busy. Several things were mentioned to do and I agree. However the National Quarter Horse Association is their. Many good places to eat. Go to the big Texan for a good steak and experience.

Palo Duro Canyon state park. We stayed there for a few days in June this year.

Don't really know why someone would call it armpit of Texas. To each his own I guess.
We always stay at Ft Amarillo RV Resort at the west edge of Amarillo. Nice park convenient to many restaurants and shopping. But if you let the DW in the gift shop it may cost you more than the site itself.
Palo Duro Canyon State Park is definitely worth a visit. And a great place to stay if you prefer to stay in a beautiful state park. And the plains museum in Canyon near the park entrance is worth a visit. All this is a fairly short drive to/from Amarillo.

Near Amarillo: Never been to the state park, but have read about it & would like to make it over there someday. Palo Duro Canyon State Park as well as Caprock Canyons State Park, from what I have read, seem like very neat areas to see.

Caprock Canyons State Park & Trailway would make a neat place to check out. One I would like to see. For perhaps a neat experience, Copper Breaks State Park near Quanah sounds pretty cool.

We like the oasis RV park off I-40 on the west side of Amarillo. Visit Palo Duro Canyon park west of Alamogordo and near Canyon TX.

Amarillo = armpit of Texas. Palo Duro Canyon is certainly worth seeing. Cadillac Ranch is worth a stop for a picture. Big Texan... seen the signs for decades never been in the place.

Never thought of Amarillo as a place to visit as such. There is the Big Texan where if you can eat a 72oz steak dinner, it is free. We have always stayed at Amarillo Ranch RV Park. It is big, dusty & Texan. We did spend more than one night there once but that was because of high wind & hazardous driving in the direction we were going.
