I am looking for a nice park near the Asheville Cabins of Willow Wind. The address for the cabins is 39 Stockwood Rd. Exd., Asheville. I have read some good reviews on Mama Gertie's, how close is it to the Cabins. There Re others which look closer, just not sure we'll fit. Our fiver is high profile and 37 ft. long. Thanks in advance for your help.

If you prefer a more forested and quiet experience, the Lakeside Loop at Lake Powhatan Recreation Area Campground is a good choice. Most of the sites on that loop are full hook up.

Taps is in a convenient location with good prices and as very helpful owner. Quite a few people going to the VA center in Asheville stay there.

We stayed at Bear Creek last fall and while it is a nice park it can be noisy as it is located right off I-40 at the 240 I-26 I-40 interchange. If you have a nice quiet, well insulated rig then its a great location. Got to do the Moose Cafรฉ if you stay there as it is located just across I-40 from there. Also, Biscuit Head restaurant is a must do too. Asheville is a great town with lots of neat things to do. We live a hour west of Asheville and go there 3-6 times a year. We are season pass holders to the Biltmore and enjoy going there.

Thank you so much for the information. I have read about the road into Mama Gertie's, so have some apprehension about that. Actually think we may have stayed there in 2011, just seems like the name was different, however I could be wrong. I really appreciate your responses. Thank you!

We just stayed at Taps about a month ago. It is Big Rig Certified by Good Sam, FWIW. It's NOT an RV resort by any stretch it's an RV park. The owner is nice to deal with and the rates aren't bad. There's more some semi-permanent folks there than "weekenders". We wanted somewhere close to downtown and it worked for that. Close to 40 and to the Parkway.

We were at Mama Gerties, space 22. Beautiful, but... Steep road in the campground to get up to the lsrger spaces. Getting back down was also tricky because of a sharp, narrow turn with a dip. We had adequate clearance. If you don't have at least 6-7" of clearance on the front of the fiver, I would go somewhere else. Campfire Lodging? We have not been there...

Mama Gerties, Lake Powhatan Recreation Area, and Asheville East KOA are all within 10-11 miles of 39 Stockwood Rd. Exd. Taps RV Park is about 6.5 miles. All of them can accommodate a 37 ft 5'ver on some sites.
