Bike Recommendation?

We have a couple of these...This is the low step model (I have two hip replacements). They have a regular frame model also.. 8 gear internal hub. Loaded with features.
Pricy, but awesome town/commuter style bike. We take ours on all camping trips and ride them a lot.

We have bought Trek's for the past 20 years for our ourselves our kids, and now our grandson. I still have my 20+ year old Trek that I put a minimum of 200-300 miles on each summer. DH thinks it's time I got a new one, but I love it. Having said that, I do know that there are a lot of good brands out there. We buy our bikes from reputable Bike Shops but I am sure there are other options.

Look at Townies if you want a cruiser. Specialized, Trek, Giant all make good products. What ever you do stay out of the Big Box Store. Find a good local bike shop that provides good customer service. Tell them what type of riding you want to do and they should have a bike to fit your needs. Most bike shops offer free tune ups if you buy the bike from them.

How much are you willing to spend?
Do a search for 'Urban Comfort Bike'
Expect to pay around $500

Find a local bike shop which sales Trek, Specialized, Giant, Cannondale, Jamis, etc. You get what you pay for, and these type bikes will last a long time.

+1. A quality bike from one of the above named companies will serve you well. I bought the Trek Pure comfort bike after riding a rental one and finding out how much better it was than the cheapo bike I owned. Now I take the Trek on almost every trip and ride it around campgrounds and paved paths.

I highly recommend comfort bikes. The upright seat position will save your rear from pain, and the quality running gear moves along easily.

My suggestion got eliminated with sitting upright. I have a homemade recumbent tadpole trike. I have even taken a nap while sitting on it. I was looking for a pic to post but don't have one in the files. I'll have to take one.

Seems there are two bike shops in Yuma: Mr. B's and Johnny Yuma's. Anyone know anything about them? Mr. B's has a web site and sells Electra Townies, which look like they might be for me. No web site for Johnny Yuma's.

One thing I don't like about the Townie is its twist shifter. Could someone comment on it? The Schwinn I just returned had one, and it just didn't work well.

P.S. Pegleg, your recumbent looks snazzy, but I've always been somewhat put off about lying on my back and pedalling. Whenever I see one coming down the street it always looks kinda' unstable and uncomfortable to me. Of course, tge lack of stability wouldn't be a problem with three wheels I guess---.

I ride a Trek and wife rides a Raleigh. Each have over 3,000 miles without needing gear adjustments. I lube the chains occasionally and keep the tires aired up. Have fun.

We just want to pick up a couple of bikes to ride around the CG...not planning on touring, mountains, trails....
