boondock site for popoup near Allagash Wilderness, Maine

We are planning a 16 day trip through Maine this summer with multiple stops.

One stop is a hike to the locomotives in the woods at Eagle lake. It will be a 5 hours drive to get there and 2.5 more hours to our next stop. Hate to be in the car that long.

I'm looking for a boondock for one night right near Eagle Lake.

Not having much luck confirming that such a place exists.

There are lots of references to hike in tent sites

I'd be grateful for some local knowledge
  • This map may help you. There are a lot of state owned boondocking areas in Maine, but are hard to find.

There is a better map, I will see if I can find it.
  • This might give you some leads. Last time I was up there, access to the Northwoods and it's dispersed sites can get a bit expensive for rustic camping.
