Coffe pot for boondocking

I purchased an AeroPressKit for camping. I liked the coffee it made so much that it is the way I make coffee at home now. Easy to use. All you need is a pot of boiling water. Quick preparation. Easy clean up.

We've always used a stovetop perculator. It makes excellent coffee. Can't understand why some folks turn on the generator to plug in their coffeepot... or toaster. Frying pan toast is awesome!

Nope nope nope....it only makes 10 cups....~!!!!!!!!!! We have a 20 cup perculator.......I put it on, take it out to the camp stove when done and you won't believe all the "friends" we make :) :) :) Seriously, I NEED a 20 cupper!!!!!

and 2gypsies.....I agree!!!! Our friends would start their $#@#$@ generator at 6:00 every morning so SHE could have coffee out of her coffeemaker.....!!!!!! Thank goodness he finally divorced her!!!!

I used that same unit for a year or so tent camping. Finally I left it on the propane burner too long and it melted down the bakelite and couldn't use it any more haha...

I have to agree it sure did make good coffee like the both of us liked.

Right now my backup coffee maker is the plain ole coleman peculator. We use the CUISINART grind and brew coffee maker to brew up our fresh ground bean coffee for the day.


Every morning at 8AM we will be using our 2KW generator to re-charge our battery banks using the PD9260C on-board converter/charger unit. It only takes five minutes time to grind and brew fresh ground bean coffee using the Cuisinart DGB-600BC. This brews up into a thermos carafe and then completely powers off...

We have used a good old-fashioned Pyrex percolator for well over 30 years now. I forgot to put it in the cupboard one time and had the pot break when it fell off the stove while we were on the road. The insides did not break, if you can believe that. I found a replacement pot without the guts at a second hand store for $15 and things were good once again.

I still love a good percolator. But this one fits the bill for quicker coffee in the morning before we head out somewhere

I don't have a quiet enough Gen to fire it up just for coffee! Haha

Okay, this is a thread I have been hoping for.

I don't drink coffee (but love coffee ice cream and frappicinos). However, my wife is drinking more coffee now, instead of tea. So, I am trying to make a good cup (or 5) for her when we go camping.

I have an aluminum percolator camp pot, but when we used it the first time, many of the grounds fell through. (She brought "fine ground", I found out.) So, my next attempt (heading out Friday for a week) will be to put a filter in the bottom of the coffee holder in the percolator.

Does that work?

Someone commented about using boiling water to pour over the grounds, using a brewing cone. Does that make a good cup of coffee? If it is too weak, do you just add more coffee to the filter the next time? Can you pour coffee over the grounds again, or put fresh grounds into the filter, then pour coffee over them to make stronger coffee?

I use an aluminum stovetop percolator similar to this:

Been using it for 30 years or so, and I swear it just gets better the more you use it.

Unless you like a little chew in your coffee, you want to use a filter. I use some similar to this:
Percolator Coffee Filters

When you get them, they are just big flat sheet of filter paper, with a hole in the center, and a hole in each of the 4 corners. You put the filter in the basket with the center hole over the stem. Form the filter around the basket with your hands, then put your ground coffee in the basket. Fold each corner over and pin it on the stem, then put the basket cap in place. What you've done is create a little filter paper bag in the basket, and since it is tucked closed, grounds cannot float out the top. And cleanup is as easy as dumping the wet filter bag in the trash, then rinsing the pot. Don't scrub off all the patina from the pot, or you'll just ruin the whole experience for next time. This is coffee as God intended. You can't get that out of any glass pot.
