east coast
Living here in cincy ohio, we are looking into heading up the east coast in 2018. traveling with a 42 foot 5th wheel. suggestions for campgrounds, routes. and places must see. prob be on the road for 3 weeks.

Lobsters shed their shells every year. Unlikely that a barnacle would be around for long....- Came across your post researching our summer trip, headed up from PA to CT, RI, MA, NH. If you are going around the 4th of July, one of our families favorite experiences has been the 4th on Lake Champlain. The city campground is great, 2 mile ride on the bike path into Burlington, and the Lake is beautiful. If you want a spot there that day you have to reserve the minute they open reservations. Oh, I almost forgot, the firework show was amazing.

I've been to Block Island a couple times the last two years... I really do not understand the appeal. Friends have a time share mini-apartment there. There is NOTHING to do there. Sure, do some biking and hike some trails around the island, and that's it.
The coolest thing about Block Island for me is the relatively inexpensive ferry ride!
Moderately interesting to visit once, and that's it for me.
I would guess if I were a property owner, the appeal would be the real estate values! LOL ;)
Mike- If you can't get into Acadia, check out Lamoine State Park. Across the bay about 20 miles from the National Park. Dry camping, but bathrooms with showers. You can have lobsters (cooked or live) delivered to your site!
As to PA, my favorite state park is Ricketts Glen, not too far from I81. 22 waterfalls along a 5-7 mile trail in the park. Again dry camping with bathrooms with showers. machunt wrote:

If your referring to green crabbing, which is basically a crab used for bait fishing, they are all over the place in New England.
Blue crabbing (which is what you can eat) to the best of my knowledge is not as plentiful in New England. You need to go south to the mid Atlantic coast to find that.
Two campgrounds that we have been to that are known for Blue crabbing
in VA Cherrystone Family Camping Resort and in NJ Sea Pirate Campground
Bring plenty of bug spray for NJ the Green heads will eat you alive.

Moderately interesting to visit once, and that's it for me.- Adirondacks Lake George Rv Resort. After that you can catch route 9 from Albany to Brattleboro and take that down to 2 in Mass to I93 and chug North into New Hamsphire for Danforth Bay on Lake Ossipee and the white mountains. Try Yankee BBQ and ask for the Feast. Or i95 up the Maine Coast. We are going to Salisbury Beach State park in September in upper Mass. In Maine we stayed at KOA Oceanfront Campground in Bar Harbor. There you have the island to explore free shuttle from cg and Acadia National Park which is stunning.I had to leave as I was growing claws....

- Two places come to mind, on the MA/NH border and about 30 minutes from southern ME attractions is Salisbury Beach State Park Walk to the beach from your campsite! Plenty boating, fishing, biking with one beach on the Atlantic and one beach on the Merrimack River.
In RI there's Fishermens State Park You have the Historic Newport Mansions, short drive to several beaches, fishing and lot & lots of biking. You can ride your bikes from your campsite to the block Island ferry and bike scenic Block Island, makes a great day! :C
Both campgrounds have loads of seafood restaurants in the areas which includes Block Island!
Also from Fishermans you can do a day trip to Mystic Seaport.
