Fireworks in NYC or Boston?

My family is flying to Europe this summer so I now have the choice to watch the fireworks anywhere I'd like. The question is, should I watch the Fourth of July fireworks on the Hudson River in NYC this year or at the Boston Commons with the Boston Pops?

Who's got the best fireworks show?

Your thoughts, please.
  • I'd also vote for Boston, however it will be crowded. For a smaller, but excellent show, mounted by the Grucci family (one of the best fireworks presenters in the country), check out Oswego, NY's Harborfest. July 23 - 26 with the fireworks on Saturday night. It is usually an impressive 20 - 25 minute show choreographed to music. Some photos from the 2013 festival.
  • Washington, D.C.- free big show with celebrities at the Capitol and then big fireworks over the city.

When they were on the Hudson River, I would have definitely said NYC. You could pick up the Light Rail about a half block from Liberty Harbor Marina/CG and ride it up to where the fireworks were and jump back on and go back to the RV. Now I would say it's a pick.

We have some great ones in DC and Baltimore's Inner Harbor, but it's a pain to get there and back. Me, now I just watch them on TV
Thanks, a couple of years ago, I did the Washington, DC concert and fireworks and really loved it.

  • We lived just across the bridge from NYC, but went to Boston for the Fourth. Watch and listen to the Declaration of Independence read from the balcony, visit the Old North Church, walk the Freedom Trail, see Old Ironsides taken into the harbor and turned around, participate in a re-creation of the Boston Tea Party, then relax on the banks of the river to enjoy the Boston Pops and fireworks.
  • Boston is amazing, but you'll need to be prepared for the million other people who'll be with you.
  • NYC - Always a great time!!! If you don't leave saying it was the best fireworks show you have ever seen... somebody better check you for a pulse!! Usually 3 or 4 massive barges taking up most of the river (fyi. Last year they moved it from Hudson River to the East River)... feels like you are watching every other fireworks shows grand finale for 45 straight minutes.... It will leave you saying "wow"
  • I'd vote for Boston, and spend a couple of days there over the 4th. They ALWAYS put on a great show there combined with the music of the POPS, to say nothing of all the other 4th activates there in Boston.
