Free boondocking at creede or lakecity co

We are going to creede and lakecity the end of July and would like some ideas on free camping there. We could stay in the nat Forrest but I an not wanting to pay 18 a night just for a spot.

You might want to consult the news/closures as Wolf Creek Pass and the the town of South Fork and the highway from SF to Creede are all closed due to a forest fire in the area. If you're gonna be in the Lake City area you should be ok to get to Creede from there.

    please note above

  • Between Creede & Lake City there are at least a dozen Forest Service Roads directly off Hiway 149. They all allow dispersed camping. Some locations are flat/level just off the hiway, some are several miles back rough dirt roads, some are up steep hillsides. Just depends what you're looking for. The real issue in July will be availability. Many of these dispersed camping sites are very popular with ATV'rs and/or fishing folks and they stay full all summer, even with the 14 day limit.

PS: hiway 149 in this area is getting repaved this summer, so lots of traffic delays, noise and asphalt fumes will be present certain weeks.

  • I paid a fee 26 out of 28 nights this lasts 5 weeks on the road. Life is not free. Maybe Washington has a way you can't camp at the white house for free.
  • Dispersed Camping Rio Grande Nat'l Forest Look under Creede.

Such as: Crooked Creek Dispersed Area.

Or maybe: Hansons Mill Campground Elevation: 10,800' This small, isolated dispersed campground is located 16.8 miles east of Creede on Forest Road 600.

Check under South Fork as well, such as Alberta Lake Fishing Site, but only one site.

    Or http://freecampsites.net/alamosa-campground/

The Gate BLM Campground Lake City May not be free. $5 per night Also: Public Camping Lake City.

    A $7 campground: Mill Creek BLM - Lake City - 22 sites

    A Free One: Road Canyon.
  • Your kidding right? They're CHARGING to boondock in the national forest now?
