- Francesca_KnowlExplorerI live pretty far away, but I hear that as long as you stay away from the Sizzler during Early-Bird-Special hour you stand a good chance of not being trampled. ;)
- ontheroad101ExplorerWe have been in the Fort Myers area several times and found it to be safe in the area's we were in. But like all big cities there may be some area that are undesirable. It is no different then any large city. Ask at the RV park you are staying at for information about the area. Also check with the visitor's center.

- jts140ExplorerWorked and lived here for over 20 yrs,,, when people say Fort Myers it ranges from the city of FM to south FM , Can you be more specific where you are staying? I know of several older rv parks that are tucked away in residential areas that I would not stay at. You can pm if easier.
- fchammer1ExplorerA few years back (except for one windy foray to the RGV), we moved from the south Miami area (Miami/Everglades CG) to the Fort Myers area for that very reason: safety. The turning point in Miami occurred when three young men in the car in front of me decided to test fire a semi-automatic pistol.
We spent a month at the Fort Myers Campground on US 41 and explored the area from there. We bought and sold an RV lot in one little town just south of Fort Myers, and eventually bought a mobile in Imperial Bonita Estates, a nice 55+ community that also has a sizable RV section.
There are a few areas of Fort Myers where I wouldn't walk alone at night -- around SR 80 and MLK Blvd. I would also avoid some neighborhoods in the Lehigh Acres area east of town. Other than that, it's probably much like any small America city.
That said, we often enjoy the theatre and other night life in the city itself and will continue to do so. Likewise for Naples, but the deciding factor there is more financial. - Triker33ExplorerSafest Ft. Myers Neighborhoods
Ft. Myers crime rate
Crimes average per 100,00 US in 2011 was 307.5 Ft. Myers 559.3 - retispcsiExplorerAs it has been said before you need to know where you are. Some areas of Ft. Meyers are better left unexplored by the weak and heart and the unarmed. However there are many really nice areas in and around Ft. Meyers to explore. It is similiar to any medium size urban area. Thousands upon thousands of snow birds and locals enjoy Ft. Meyers every day without incident.
- OTTOExplorerWe stayed in Fort Meyers Beach this past April. Initially spent a week. Liked it enough to spend a second week. I would be more concerned about being able to breath the hot humid air than crime.
- GilliedogKiwiExplorerWe have a home in Ft. Myers near Ft. Myers Beach/Sanibel area. This area we have found to be very safe and we love it there. We take out travel trailer down there and store it, stay in our home, and use the travel trailer to tour around. No problems.
- luvglassExplorerWe've spent a few winters down there and it's no better or worse than any metropolitan area. Safety seems to be more a function of your attitude than the reality of the particular area.
