looking for a campground Timberville VA

Heading to Timberville VA in early July for about 10 days. We will be coming from south west MN. Anyone have any ideas where to stay. Looking for something quiet and cheaper. Pulling a 37ft 5th wheel. We have never been to this area. Did some searches on the net but did not find a lot.
  • The closest campground would be Endless Caverns. We have stayed there several times (clean, Quite, ez-in/ez-out). There is a new campground just off I-81 at Mt. Jackson. Shenandoah Valley Campground - near Shenandoah Caverns (Shenandoah Family Campground). Looks nice, hav'ent stayed there.

  • Thanks
My daughter just bought a fixer upper in Timberville (she works in Harrisonburg) going out there to help her fix and paint.
  • Natural Chimneys is a great park but it's probably a solid 30 miles or more from Timberville. Endless Caverns is probably the closest. There's also a KOA just across the interstate, it has a Broadway address. About 12 or 15 miles to the west on route 259 is Highland Retreat. It's a very nice private campground owned by the Mennonite church. They might rent a sight to you, I don't know.
If you go further west on 259 into WV there's Lost River State Park. There's a few other small campgrounds around Mathias (Trout Pond for instance) I don't know how they would work out for an RV the size of yours.
There really aren't a lot of good options to be really close to Timberville. I grew up in Harrisonburg (12 miles away). Message me if you want directions to anything.
  • There is National Chimneys Regional Park http://www.co.augusta.va.us/Index.aspx?page=617 at Mount Solon, VA. Gets good reviews on www.rvparkreviews.com
Plenty of pricey KOA's in the area if that doesn't pan out. Beautiful area!
