Looking for FL west coast - resort style location

hi,

We have wintered for several years on the east coast - FL - and are thinking of moving over to the west coast. We are fulltimers, have a 40' class a. We stay in all types of campgrounds during most of the year, but when we go to FL for an extended stay (4 mo), we prefer a resort style setting - concrete pads, nice pool, some activities. We would like to find such a place in the Tampa area or south. I hope you might have some suggestions for us - thank you
  • Sun N Fun is BIG and is an RV Resort with lots of park models on site. The park models cannot be lived in full time so it remains a RV park and cannot be a mobile home park with permanent residents. All the park models have to be vacant for three months a year.
There aren't many rug rats there during the winter season.

We were thinking of trying there this year but saw 2 things of concern. Since you have been there maybe you could answer them.
1.I see there are quite a few permanent places there. Is this more like a mobile home park or an RV resort?
2.I also saw that this is advertised as a family destination. Are there a lot of children there during the winter?

    Thanx
  • Quail Run in Wesley Chapel just north of Tampa. Older section lots of shade, paved patio no cable TV. Newer section fully paved site and patio, cable TV, no shade.
  • Try Sun and Fun in Sarasota,,,very nice, resort style.

  • We had the same question last year so we took a trip down this spring. In the Ft. Myers area we liked Cypress Woods RV Resort. In Ft. Myers Beach we liked Gulf Waters RV Resort. If you like golf, but are not ready for the PGA Senior Tour, we liked Silver Lakes RV and Golf in Naples. They have a decent 9 hole executive course on the property. They also have a sister Class A only resort adjoining to the south.

All had the things you requested and more with friendly residents.
My wife's favorite was Cypress. It is further away from the Ft. Myers action but quieter also with less traffic if you want to take a walk or bike ride.

We also visited some we did not like at all. We found, to our surprise that each RV Resort was very different. Some had a lot of permanent park models, some had a lot of 5th wheels, some did not allow either, some allowed screened room attachments, some allowed utility trailers to be kept on the lots. Some were nothing more than mobile home parks with empty lots to park an RV in.

Good Luck. There are many nice place to chose from.
