Pretty funny - huh? Hubs and I have been wondering around AZ for 7 years during the winter looking for the perfect place for us. Closest thing we've found to our liking has been around Boulder City, NV but I still think there is a secret gem out there for us. Something out of the way. Need groceries but not much more. We love to hike, golf, ride the bikes and walk the dog where she can be off leash without bothering anyone or getting to highways. We don't really need a bunch of amenities. Just a clean park with a good laundry facility, cable, and WIFI. We want to stay out here in the west so NV, AZ, CA. Anybody have a place like this they would be willing to share?

Just east of Quartzsite is a small town and you can rent a site for about $1,200 a year! Most stay only a few months out of the year, but leave the RV there all year long while they return home in the summer. You will be close to Quartzsite and plenty of open BLM land to wander around. Not many local golf sources, but that is something I never looked for anyway. Have you been to Bisbee? Lake Patagonia? Tombstone? I have been to all these places at Thanksgiving over the years. Some full timers like to hold up in Ajo. It has plenty of space! Not a whole lot else though. . . . .You could try a few 'free' sites here, and then splurge on 'expensive sites' when you have saved a few bucks on the free ones. Have you been to Pahrump NV? It would meet most if not all your needs, as would Brenda AZ that Fred was referring to. We like Wellton AZ, 30 miles east of Yuma in the Dome Valley. Close to Yuma for shopping but a true agriculture area on the north side of I-8 and nothing but desert with lots of trails and hiking on the south side of I-8.

The DOG OFF THE LEASH IS THE PROBLEM in most parks that are not dumps.

but I didn't mean in the park. I meant in surrounding areas like where you might drive ATV or hike.

What can I say? To us it was boring, it was pretty in the foothills where we were, not far from the gravel pit. Just not my cup of tea, even my cousin who lives in Pheonix couldn't understand why I went there, if I were to go West again for the Winter I would chose Pheonix area. And another thing that weighed heavy on our decision was the churches that we went to, they were so "dead", compared to the bible belt. Never found one that we liked. So Yuma for us, is off our list.

I retired and took the plunge. I wintered in Yuma for the last 10 years off and on. I love it, so I now have a double wide in the Foothills. It is quiet and the neighbors are great. I bought last year in June. Have a couple of full hook ups for my friends and relatives to visit and they enjoy it also. You just can't beat the Yuma sunrise or sunsets. The desert has so much life in it and there is always something new to see and experience. I never get bored.

If I traveled, I would still keep Yuma as my base.

Different strokes for different folks. We find the Yuma area very active with lots of different things to do and some very good shopping. The only reason it would be boring would be because YOU didn't take advantage of what the area has to offer. We were gypsies last year and wandered all over mid to South AZ. We never made any reservations anywhere as that would ruin the ability to be spontaneous. We did not have any problems finding places to stay. State Parks are great and as we don't need hook-ups, they were economical.

We also stayed in a few private rv parks but most of the high end "resort" parks wold not allow us because of some stupid rule about campers. Our unit is worth more than many of the older trailers they had there. we decided they were not the place for us anyway.

An example of why we don't make reservations: Went to a park for 2 days and stayed for 10 because the people staying there were so much fun. Made many friends there.

Wandering lets you experience some great places and prevents boredom. Go have a great time.

So hubby and I have decided to take another winter and just by gypsies. We will be making a loop to take in the suggestions made here. Thank you so much for taking the time to give me adeas. :)

I second the Parker area. Lake Havasu City is not far away in case you do want the occasional amenity. And of course you have to visit the desert bar. 6 miles out in the middle of nowhere is a fantastic bar that 100's of people visit. It's so unique, it's a must see if you are in the area.

Bisbee is a great town that has not be ruined by modern influence (no McDonalds) and is not full of touristy gimmicks like Tombstone. If there is a gunfight in Bisbee, run, it's for real. It is a little cool in the winter though. An old town that looks like you are back in the 1800's.
