Park near Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, in late June

We have stayed at Brimley before, it's only 30 minutes from Sault Ste Marie. The waterfront sites were awesome for our kids. There are paths from each site to the lake. The back of the park has a river that come off of Lake Superior, it's full of tadpoles.

If you go out for dinner, try "Antlers" in Sault Ste Marie. The food was amazing. I think I had a buffalo burger (my first ever) and it was superb. My son had wild game lasagna and loved it.

I don't know why you cross-examined my lawyer. He wasn't even there. However, he did inform me that my skunk was justified in biting and spraying your dog. You see, the Michigan state-wide leash law applies to all dogs but not to skunks. The state Supreme Court has also ruled that standing your ground is valid justification for all forms of self-defense. So, your dog was in violation of the law, while my skunk was justifiably defending himself. If your dog was on a leash, it definitely wasn't short enough.

It's only the $2 reservation fee and your first night rate that isn't refundable. So just make all of your site preferences on the water. If they don't have one, I would assume you could convince them to refund everything since they can't provide you what you want. Or wait another 11 days and call them and make your reservation and be assured you get what you want.

However, I don't think you have much to worry about. While it's a great campground, three years ago I made waterfront reservations in June or July for the first week in August and got the waterfront site we wanted.

Both Brimley and Aune Osborne are great campgrounds.

We enjoyed our stay at Brimley but really just used it as a base camp. We were there in May for a Memorial Weekend so avoided a waterfront/cooler site but they would have been great in warmer temps.

If you camp right on the river, don't let your dog bite the skunk that lives there. You will NOT enjoy the drive home if you do. Don't ask how we know that.

Even if not right on the water's edge, a site at Aune-Osborn is worth it, IMO. Next door (walkable) to a good burger joint and a local park along the water, and the CG has benches positioned to watch the river. We really enjoyed it.

Caveat - be careful with cellphone calls from there. They may get routed to a tower on the Canadian side & incur international rates.

There is also Soo Locks campground just a mile away. FYI NO sewer at the parks along the river. Also a casino in town with power and water.

Definitely Aune Osborne. It is run by the city of Saulte Saint Marie and is only 3 miles east of downtown, right on the St. Mary's River. Check out Antlers restaurant for lunch or dinner, only a mile away. www.saultantlers.com. The Bushplane museum in Sault Saint Marie, Ontario is educational and entertaining for the whole family. www.bushplane.com. The last weekend in June is Engineers Days at the locks and July 1st is Canada Day, so things get hopping up at the Soo.
