Prescription meds MIA or Lost ? ?

Here's the situation, folks. We are headed south and about to enter into the US via route 59 from Texarkana. DW just noted this morning and noted one (5 month supply) was not included with her other meds. We've checked and double checked everywhere and are unable to find them. My question is if we can convince the Drug Store at home to send a replacement prescription via Fed Ex would they clear US Customs in the next 4 days or so??

Failing that, I suspect we'll be forced to visit a local doctor and try to get another (new) prescription. If you or know of someone who has experienced this situation plus found a solution - please advise. Thanks in advance for your advice. :E
  • I'm please to report the outcome of this tale. DW called the pharmacy we deal will at home. According to them - this is not the first time they've seen this happen and here is what was done. Using Poste Canada (Canada Post) and US Postal Services a registered (small padded) envelope was shipped immediately from Canada. Five (5) days later it arrived here in south Texas. Case solved! Thanks all.

On edit: an update: apparently, no pharmacy in the US will accept a Canadian doctor's prescription. IF you are a member of the Canadian Snowbird Association, you may want to call them (General Inquiries 1-800-265-3200)

This is also the case for someone from the US trying to get a Canadian pharmacy to fill a prescription written by a US Doctor. Some friends found that out during our trip up the Alaska Highway last year.

So it's not just the US pharmacies being anal. There must be some common legal justification that both the US and Canada subscribe to here.

    Try Mexico first. Much cheaper!
He's Canadian. Mexico probably not cheaper.

I noticed that you are from Quebec. If we need to have a prescription re-filled, and have no time to do a 1 hour drive x2 to doctor's office to renew, we just simply call our doctor(s), and they will issue a prescription to our local pharmacy. We have no experience having a prescription forwarded to a local pharmacy in the US, however I can "imagine" this being possible IF you have all the local pharmacy particulars in the US, so your Quebec-based doctor's administrator can send the paperwork to the US pharmacy by e-fax or e-mail, or phone. Typically, your Quebec doctor will charge you a $10 or $20 fee to renew a prescription by phone (pay by credit card).

The other issue is: your prescription cannot have been more than a year (~~ or so) issued between appointments.

    Good luck!

  • Might you be able to get the RX in Mexico. Maybe faster and cheaper?
    What is your final destination?

It might be a tough sell to an U.S. doctor if it a controlled substance prescription.
  • Correction. OP should read 'about to enter TEXAS (not US) via route 59' . . . In fact, we are already in the US and have been for the past two weeks. BB
