rv park near north hills of Pittsburgh

We are planning to spend a week or two in the Pittsburgh area this summer in mid August. I am trying to find a rv park closer to the North Hills area of Pittsburgh.(Shaler) I have noted the following campgrounds: BUTTERCUP WOODLANDS in RENFREW, BEAR RUN in Portesville,INDIAN BRAVE, AND HARTS CONTENT in BEAVER Falls.
We have a 40 foot motorcoach and will be towing a car. Any suggestions??

tina1bear, we stayed at bear Run....with a 43 ft motorhome...it was TIGHT...I would never go back....had doubts I could get out and I been driving trucks for 43 yrs...I ended up backing out of a pull thru....had quite a crowd watching as we left
Stayed at Indian Brave and found it to be ok...many seasonals but sites decent and people friendly would go back if i was going into Pittsburg , next time stayed at the KOA in Mercer....wife wanted to go to outlet center..nice people running the campgroung and we are going back to the outlets and the KOA...Chuck
  • There is a KOA in Grove city, just north of Portersville and very close to I 79.
  • Any opinions on Uniontown KOA (formerly called Rivers Edge Camping and Cabins. Looks to be an hour drive to Pittsburgh.
    Thanks!
  • We have the same issue with trying to find a place even remotely close to Pittsburgh to stay with our 40 foot Bus. Our son lives there so last year when visiting one day, I picked out 3 to visit in our car to try to find us a place.
We were staying at Mountain Top. I was not enthralled with it and doubt we will ever go back. Access was not easy and as previous poster said, it is on a "hill" top with good views. But, no sewer and water quality was questionable. RV's on the perimeter are allowed to let their "gray" water flow off of the side of the hill. Deal breaker for me.
So back to the topic, we found Pine Cove Beach. We will stay there when we are in the area. We visited the KOA. Sites are narrow as are the interior roads. Looked a little run down and needs upgrading.
These are just our observations. Everyone has differing opinions and this is ours. Good luck and safe travels?
  • We have just gone through the same selection process as our son just moved to Pittsburg last summer

We stayed both at Mountain Top and Buttercup Woodlands Campground last fall - Mountain top is just that lots of room on a mountain top but no sewer - rather a honey wagon weekly - not for me

Buttercup was field camping on grass and no pads or patios

We checked out Bear Run and we are staying there for 3 weeks starting next month - nice sites and location - your can jump right on I79 to get to the city
  • We've only stayed at the Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA which has plenty of room for pull thrus.
