Salt Springs NF Campground, FL

Going to Florida in February and had hoped to stay at Salt Springs, but all the reservable sites are taken. What are the chances that there will be a FCFS site open on a Monday for 10 days? Or is it pretty much full all winter long.
  • Thanks for all the info. We have reservations at Alexander Springs, but there are no hookups. We will swing thru Salt Springs and check availability.
  • We use the park several times a year. Yes, the snow birds do fill the park! Without a reservation, it is first come, first serve. They have a good website which explains what's available. That park waives the rule and allows snowbirds to stay for up to six months (Oct/Apr). We did five days there last year over Easter weekend and met good people from Canada, Mich, Wisc, who all arrived in OCT and Nov.

As stated above, there is a tent area (water hookup only) where you could park / camp until a full hookup site is available.

Good luck, hope you enjoy it.
  • We were there the last two winters for a week, one of our favorites. Both winters it was nearly full the entire time. BUT there is a boondock area that people don't seem to use very often down by the boat launch. Have only seen a couple campers down there. You could stay there for a couple of days if nothing is available when you first arrive. They did have either power or water at the boondock sites, don't remember which. Give them a call, good people.

I agree. If its FCFS, once you sign in you should be able to keep it for the 14 day limit. Now can you get a site? That's a good question but early in the week is your best chance.
  • We have been there in January the last two years and there have always been a few available sites. Once you are in a walk-up site you should be able to keep it for the 10 days. I would call the office to check on availability before you arrive.
