That info is spot on! I worked in SF as a Firefighter and the area around Candlestick RV Park is the ghetto. If you like hearing gunfire that's the place to stay!

Stayed there several years ago and there were races in the parkinglot at night and some gunfire. Also,tghe site was so narrow we kept running into the neighbors drivers slide,wde didn't have any on that trailer. We also had to move the trailer to hook it up after I got into the site. Biggest thing was that they tried to charge us for an extra day for checking out 30 minutes late when we had made arrangements for possibly being out late.

Trader Joe's within easy walking distance. Cheesecake Factory & Boudin's a longer walk but very easy drive. As is Safeway. Had a delicious meal at Jason's Friday night. Could have walked it, but drove it. Were going to walk to Marin Brewing Co. for dinner tonight, but it's raining. Location, Location, Location!

This is absolutely my experience in this area. The shopping center where Safeway is located has many restaurants, dellies, and shops. Easy to spent a couple of hours there, and lots of parking.

The Cheesecake Factory is in a very large shopping center across from the Safeway shopping center. Lots of good shops there.

As I previously posted, I camped at San Quentin for five years, four nights a week. Every day after work, I roamed from Petaluma (KOA) to the Golden Gate Bridge. After accepting lots of people and very busy traffic, my only complaint is the lousy pizza. The Marin Brewing Co has great hamburgers and other meals, but they have what I call designer beer, none of which I really like.

I also found it hard to find campgrounds near San Francisco. We camped at Olema Campground, in the Point Reyes National Seashore area just north of San Francisco. We enjoyed hiking in the park some days and site seeing in the city of San Francisco other days. It's a 34 mile drive into the city.

Oops Reddog1: You're right. The ferry goes to the Ferry Bldg which has some nice shops in it, too.

Unless the recently changed the route, the Larkspur Ferry does not go to Fisherman's Wharf. It goes to the San Francisco Ferry Bldg near the Bay Bridge.

The Premium City Tour/San Francisco Shuttle Tours start at the San Francisco Ferry Bldg.

They are two totally different companies. I have used the Larkspur Ferry many times, but never the San Francisco Shuttle Tours. I have also stayed at the Marin RV Park, 2140 Redwood Hwy., Greenbrae, CA many times. Some folks would say the Marin RV Park is just a parking lot. I found it very clean and comfortable, with real nice and helpful managers.

I am pretty familiar with the area. I worked at San Quentin for over 6 years.

Napa Valley Expo is great for big rigs.

Drive to the Larkspur ferry landing and take the fast scenic ferry into the city. It stops at Fisherman's Wharf.

You can also board an excellent small van touring company for an awesome city tour which brings you back to Fisherman's Wharf for your return. Even our daughter who lives in the city was impressed with the tour.
