- 2bzy2cExplorer IIHere you go.
Not sure about the "not wanting to spend a lot of money" part. Nothing up there is cheap - Executive45Explorer IIII'll second the SF RV Resort....great resort, friendly people, pool and spa, watch the hang gliders and the whales from your campsite. Catch the bus right at the front gate to take you to Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf, Bubba Gumps restaurant etc......Dennis
- naturistNomadThere is simply no way NOT to spend big bucks in SF, so grin and bear the gouging you'll get. That said, SF IS a great place to visit. Enjoy!

Looking for a RV campground not too far from SF. Wil have a tow, so I don't mind driving.Do not want to spend a lot of money, need a place for a jump off locale.
San Francisco reminds me in some ways of the mythical city of ElDorado; a city bathed in gold. The worst thing about San Francisco is that it is like a golden handcuff with the key thrown away---- it is hard to leave.
The second worst thing about San Francisco is that it is expensive. As you sit in a restaurant and preview the menu you, too, might think it is a city bathed in gold. Bring more money than you think you will need because you will find you do need it. - SoCal_KevinExplorerI have stayed at the SF RV Resort referred to above. It is nice but is in a very foggy microclimate. It is also quite far away from the downtown area.
If you want to get closer to downtown you might try Marin RV Park. Overall facility is comparable in amenities and cost. Better weather, much closer to shopping and restaurants. You can also get into the city by driving, taking a bus or taking the ferry. It is close to Muir Woods, Mt. Tamalpais, etc.

Either way, I am sure you will enjoy your trip. - tropical_ronExplorerWe've stayed at both SF RV Resort and Marin RV Park. For access to SF tourist stuff we much preferred Marin. 10 minute walk to the ferry landing and using trollies was an adventure in the city. Nice to leave car at rv park, no worries about feeding a meter; or where it was left. The campground staff were very helpful with tourist info and brochures. Wherever you stay you'll have a great visit to a great city. PS - SF RV is, as stated above, a bit further away from the piers.
- RckyMtnViaExplorerAnother vote for Marin RV Park. It is clean, showers and toilets old but fine. Sites a bit tight, but the great thing is the short walk to the ferry to SF. It is also about a 10 minute drive to Sausalito and the great restaurants and shops. Basic, functional and clean, but excellent location for a few days.
- jbbrickExplorerAbout 20 mi south in the Peninsula is Redwood City with some long-term and overnight rv parking. It's a bit of a ride but no bridge toll like you would have in Marin. If you want closer, SF RV Park is about it but costs a fortune. If you park in SF bring lots of coins, usually a quarter for about 10 min in the meters and now SF has the highest parking ticket charges in the country. I think the violations cost about $65 or so.
- TravelrExplorerIf you stay in Marin/greenbrea and have slides, ask for two spaces. No difference in price. If they have space they will take care of you.
- JFCExplorerAlameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton has an RV park. $35 a night for back in, 50A, $45 for pull through. New shower and laundry building, RV parts store on site, walking distance to stores and restaurants. Coffee shop on fairgrounds open Monday through Friday. Roughly 45 minutes to SF or ten minutes to BART station.
