There are lots of Snowbirds who own Park Models on year round rented RV lots as well as those who even own the lot the Park Model sits. My experience with this has been in AZ, FL may be different.

Remember it will be hard to find a place in a quality community for Jan or Feb. They are reserved a year or more in advance

Anyone have pointers to a discussion forum? When embarking on a new adventure, I generally like to hang out in a forum to get the sense of what's going on.

There are many CG's that have park models, cabins, small cottages for rent within the CG's. All you do is google CG's with lodging.

All the KOA CG's have lodging cabins, some rustic some completely furnished.

I met a lot of Snowbirds down here in Florida at some of the CG's I stayed at that were renting the lodges.

Most had Snowbirded with an RV and then sold their RV and started coming down and renting a furnished lodge in a CG. They all said they would not go back to RV'ing it down south saying you enjoy the convenience and still get to have the feeling of a CG.

When I first saw these lodges I had some second thoughts about schlepping my MH down south every winter and would have rented one of them had I know they existed.

A furnished park model 'electric included' per month cost was WAY cheaper than what I was paying for a CG site for my MH, electric NOT included. Not to mention the added cost for gas, etc. using the RV.

That might be a good starting place to rent first, get your feet wet BEFORE you jump in and buy a house.

I ended up buying a winter home here in Florida. Gotta tell ya you have to do a WHOLE LOT of research AND make sure you know the lay of the land, BEFORE you buy down here. Way different than buying a house up North on soooo many levels. :W

A large number of RVers end up with a park model, mobile home or house after several years of RV snowbirding. When you consider the cost of a Rv it can often be more room for less money.

Almost every RV park we stayed in during our winter on the road had a park model or 2 for sale. Pick an area you want to stay in and start calling around. Use RV Park Reviews to find parks in the area.

It doesn't sound like you necessarily want a RV to rent but just something for a few months.

I would suggest searching on Craig's list in Yuma for rentals. After a few years of renting spots we finally purchased a private lot with a park model trailer on it but there are plenty of rentals available.
