We live in Georgia. We are taking my mother-in-law (86) in our camper to Holland, MI so she can visit relatives for a week the 2nd week of May. She will stay with her relatives when there. So wife and I are looking for attractions while we camp that week until we bring her back to Georgia. So far we plan to spend a few days in Holland and enjoy the Tulip Festival. Any suggestions for the rest of the week, other cities, locations, sites, top 5 attractions while up in that area? We are not familiar with the area at all. Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance....

Arguably the best attraction in Michigan is the Henry Ford (aka Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village) outside of Detroit. It's definitely worth a couple of days if not longer.

Check out the wineries in Traverse Bay, if that's your thing. There are some in the area around Holland if you don't want to travel up to Traverse Bay.

Bonner's Christmas store is (I think is the largest open year round). They also design & sell decorations for commercial buildings.It's in Frankenmuth, and has many good German restaurants.

Musical fountain in Grand Haven (about a half hour north of Holland). It's my hometown and there's tons of things to do there.Grand Haven Musical Fountain

We like to hike, we like waterfalls
We tow a car
We are willing to drive, we can leave Holland altogehter, make loop and come back to Holland in a week.
We like camping amongst shade trees if you can suggest campgrounds

Umm, too cold during mid-May. I worked on the island during one summer, and it usually was about 10 degrees cooler than the mainland, which in turn is a bit cooler than downstate.

Maybe it was a cold summer - the island is beautiful in May and the fall

Its not in Michigan but on your way up I-77, you go thru Dover OH and I highly recommend seeing the Warther Museum. He was a world class carver and there are hundreds of amazing items he carved.

People I send are always amazed. COLLECTION CLICKY

He carved it all by hand; no lathes or drill presses.

Not too far off 77 is Holmes County the largest Amish settlement in the US if you have time. Its gotten a little touristy but a good lunch can be had at Boyd and Wurthmans.

Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids.
Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes is nice but a bit further north.
North toward the middle of the state is Hartwick Pine (old growth forest) and Cross in the Woods (world largest crucifix).

Further north, so you might not have time, is Mackinaw Island and then all of the Upper Peninsula. Lots of trees and waterfalls. Kitch-iti-kipi or "The Big Spring" is a do not miss in the UP.
