Traveling from Acadia NP to Bangor to White Mnts

Currently in Maine down around Portland. Heading to Acadia in a few days. We'll see the sights there and then leave. I've got a good 2 weeks to KILL before I need to be back in Syracuse, NY.
Ok Guys, load my plate with "things to see and do". Also, I'm not opposed to "Of Grid Camping-dispersed camping, etc."
Just help a guy out.
Thanks to those who reply.
  • We were there two weeks ago. Other than Acadia NP, we didnt see much else to do there. All the rv parks are very expensive. Bar Harbour was alright to see, but one afternoon did that. We headed west to New Hampshire, and were suprised when they wanted 31 dollars US for a vehicle and driver, plus 9 dollars for each additional adult to drive up Mount Washington. There were four of us. Pretty chunky just to look at a view. It was foggy on top of the mountain as well. We passed. We changed our plans and headed north to Quebec City instead. Maybe we missed something, but Maine was a bit of a disappointment after coming from the Bay of Fundy in the Maritimes.
  • Second on Campobello Island. Beautiful place. Second on Schoodic Peninsula as well, including the Schoodic Point campground. The southern Maine beaches (Ogunquit, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport) are very pretty and the towns are very quaint with little shops and restaurants. The White Mountains/Kancamagus Highway area in NH is beautiful. Danforth Bay Campground in Freedom, NH, is a nice place to plunk for a day or two. The Kanc is reachable from there although I think there are campgrounds that are closer. There's a lot of hiking in the national forest there. The north shore of MA (Gloucester, Rockport, Newburyport) is very pretty area as well. Others can recommend places to stay up there. Good Harbor Beach is one of my favorites (Gloucester). Salem, MA, is rich in "witch" history. Then there's good ole Boston which is good for at least a day or two. And it's now apple picking and fair season, the BEST time of year!
  • If you’re going to Acadia do yourself a favor and go a little further north and see the Schoodic Peninsula. Much like Acadia, but in a more natural state. Good RV park run by NPS. If you’re feeling adventurous,go further north to Lubec.... real downeast Maine. A short trip further brings you to Campobello Island, FDR’s summer retreat (requires a passport). Beautiful setting and a quick island to tour. Very photogenic and historic. Enjoy.
