Utah highway 95 and 261 near Cedar Mesa

Hello,

Has anyone done any camping around this area? I have done quite a bit of backpacking in the area but never brought my trailer. I know I have seen some on some of the dirt roads, but never paid attention where.

Does anyone know the conditions of these dirt roads out there? Cigarette Springs, Point Lookout, Fish and Owl? My recollection is that Slick Horn Rd. wasn't too bad and had some good camping areas, but I have been on some nasty roads down there and would rather not get stuck. I'm looking to head down this April and any help would be great.

Thanks,
Chris

I am pretty sure you're right that I can camp pretty much anywhere out there I'm more worried about getting too brave and taking a road I can't get back out of. Calling is a good idea though. The Kane Creek ranger station will probably be my best bet.
  • I myself would drop down the Moki Dugway and camp at VOTG or Goosenecks, I know there good.
  • Do stick to BLM lands. The NFS has made a concerted effort to close many of the boondocking locations that used to be on the Bears Ears Road.
