A different fluorescent to LED conversion

I checked the current drain. Its between 0.29A and 0.30A at 13.03v.

Here is how it looks now with the ends frosted by sanding the inside of the lens. First with the light off.



And with the light on.



The wife seems happy with the little dots and the wires no longer show. I never did measure the current. If the locks aren't frozen I'll do it later today.

As far as brightness, it is plenty bright for the small bathroom. Most of the LED panels I have used are the 36-1210 LEDs and are about the same brightness as the 1141 bulbs they replaced. This has 45-1210 LEDs.

Tenbear, don't tilt it. This is proper location for a vanity light - in front of you, illuminating the face at the right or wide angle. DW is right though, multiple bright dots of LEDs look odd, people got used to fluorescent tubes and globe lights for vanity lights, but this is a matter of habit. Frosting should smooth it down.

PS: after looking into your link, - it can't be too bright. You only used less than 1 meter, or ~200 lumens total. This is the output of 14W incandescent. Though if the color temp is cooler, it might look brighter. A good frosted diffuser is what it needs.

I'll probably try sanding the ends first. That will at least hide the wires and I can see how it looks without destroying the lens.

I don't think tilting it would help. The 1210 LEDs have a 120 degree dispersion angle so it probably wouldn't change much, and we would still see the strips. The DW considers them sort of ugly.:h

So now I still have over 4 meters of strip, 255 individual 1210 LEDs, and no more fluorescent lights to convert. Problems, problems, problems...

Good job! 5 meters of strip is quite a bargain, too.

Perhaps aiming it down would help with the excessive brightness to the room????

You can do the frosting for nothing just use some moderately coarse sandpaper--120 or so. On the inside would probably be better.

DH just did a similar job. He replaced ALL fluorescent lights in our rig with LED strips. BIG difference in energy consumption AND in the lighting itself!! :)
