Best rearview camera/monitor replacement ?

I have a 2004 Newmar Kountry Star with a b/w ADTH rearview camera/monitor. It has stopped working and the monitor only displays a flickering white screen. I assume the camera has stopped working. I am thinking of replacing the system with a new colored camera/monitor. What is the best brand to get? I assume that I will have to replace the wiring. It looks like it will be a real tough job getting the wire up to the camera. Has anyone done this?
Thanks for your help.

or backup monitor was the overhead head TV..a neck breaker

i mounted a flip down video display under the cabinet .. off to the left side
and replaced the oem camera

all i had to do was get some connection adapters for the cables

remember all these cameras and displays use standard NTSC aka American video signals
you do NOT need to replace cable that is NOT bad
only need to use adapter connectors as long as the cable is good
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

I also recommend searching on e-Bay. I just replaced my old B & W system with a color flat screen system for just over $100 - which included an extra length of cable. The only "challenge" was making a mounting plate for the new monitor, which, thankfully, was a little smaller that the original, to fit in the original hole in the dash. If you at all handy, it's not a tough job.
Good luck.

Thanks for the great advise. Fred, that is a very helpful write-up about replacing the system.

I replaced an old black & white system on my Holiday Rambler. I installed two cameras and one monitor, and documented the process.

You can download the document that describes the process from the link below:

camera/monitor install

You can save a lot of money by shopping on ebay. For example, I am using this monitor with a side view camera, and it is a good monitor for under $30.

inexpensive monitor ebay

There are many choices for cameras. Generally, the CCD types are better than the CMOS types. Unfortunately, many vendors do not clearly identify the type. I'm using a 120 degree view CCD type that works well. Consider the mounting method already used on your coach when you're selecting the camera.

If you want to do it the cheapest way, order the camera and the monitor, see what connectors you need, and try to adapt the cable that's already installed. If you're going to scrap the old camera and monitor, you could cut those connectors off the camera and monitor, and reuse with the new ones with a bit of soldering after identifying what wire does what. One consideration is that modifying the wiring connectors on the new devices will probably void any warranty on the unit.

If you're not comfortable with wiring changes, then order a complete kit with new wiring. I referenced a good vendor in the download mentioned above.

I would first determine if the problem is the monitor or the camera. If it's either one of those, I believe you can find a color replacement that will not require re-wiring.
I'm an expert in only one field....I believe it's somewhere in Kansas.
