IKEA LED lights.

Got a LED light from IKEA, that is 12v and comes with a power supply for that. Threw away power supply and wired it direct to RVs 12v supply (tapped from another light fixture close by). It is a really neat light bar, designed for in-closet or cabinet use, and has a light-controlled switch that makes it come on when door is opened, and off when doors are closed. Great idea, and worked well when tested. After installation however, the light sensor sees itself, and stays on all the time. Probably will work after I figure out the best way to shield the sensor, but meanwhile, it is great for lighting inside the closet!

I started making my own LED strips several years back since I can make one for about 1/10 of the cost of any equilivant commercial light strip. I get the LED light strips on a reel and then mount the length I need onto a section of the right angle acrylic wallpaper corner protector available at Lowes/HD. I then mount a mini push button switch that you can buy in bulk on e-bay that are basically flashlight button switches.

I've made strips for my entertainment center (on a dimmer with remote) and several window curtain valances (simple on/off switch) in the trailer along with floorboard lighting and trunk lighting in several vehicles.

Doing it this way I can have the exact length and color LED lighting that I want and in one vehicle the LED strip is dual color one on the vehicle dimmer ckt to match the OEM dash color and the other bright white for good visibility in the floor area when needed.

I have gotten a number of lights from Ebay which come with wall warts attached, they work well after I cut off the wall wart and soldered on Power Poles.

We drove to Memphis specifically to visit the new IKEA there, and to get Led lights for the Motor Home. Much disappointed to find that the new store is much smaller than others we have visited, and the selection of LED lighting was very limited. It is really a pity that there are no American stores that carry this type of lighting and that there are none that are made in America.

This is the one we used,
Closet light strip

You pretty much have to go to the store to get these, and they have changed most or their lights to 24v transformers. Be sure and check the ones you are interested in.

Nice idea!
I have two Ikea light fixtures as reading lights. They were halogen but I bulbed them with an LED board.
