Pocket Hose

So.. a few years ago I bought two 'pocket hoses' (the nifty 50' expanding hoses that take up no room to store) and used them for constant water supply to the RV.

After two days one of them popped. Lesson: these are not made to be constantly under water pressure.

Now I see the new version the 'Brass pocket hose.'

It claims its 3x stronger.

Anyone have any experiance with them being used as a constant water connection to the RV's?

Thanks!

Bought one in the "AS SEEN ON TV" section at Walgreen. Turned on the built in valve and it came off in my hand. Not a good sign.

P. S.
Not intending to blame Walgreen. They refunded my money.

The green ones are junk. We have the Ultra Pocket Hose and it's been great. It's the black one with solid brass connectors with a valve on one end.

Mine and all that were returned, that I mentioned, were the black ones with the solid brass fitting.

Well, I guess time will tell.

Now that is funny...

Bought one with the brass fitting 4 weeks ago.
Returned it yesterday for a refund. Hole in side.
Used it nightly to water plants.

It was one of several that were returned that week per
the store employee.

I have the brass fitting one and it works fine. I've had it a year now with no issues, but it is a wash TT hose from a Y-adapter and seldom used. I would never use it under constant pressure or drink from it.

The biggest problem I have had is it traps dirt when it recoils. As it shrinks the hose-folds grab dirt and holds it. This makes for a messy hose to store. I have a separate bag I put it in because of the dirt.

I have a flat hose as my backup. It's 50' long and has it's own reel. Rolls up roughly 12x12. Water flow isn't great but it will do in a pinch. Also use it to wash camper when running off a tee. Works great for that.

I always thought it was a neat idea, but never got around to buy. Glad I didn't. I have used old "white" drinking water hose and even after they have an issue, just cut it short and use back at the sticks house with a "y" for yard work or the dog's water dish. Thanks for saving me a little bit of cash!

I got one at 1/3 off. I bought it to use on a Y connector to have a hose with a sprayer available. It's perfect for that. I would never have even considered it to be used as a constant pressure hose.

This is how I use mine too. I got the one with the brass fittings and really like it. Would never leave it under water pressure all the time. Well worth the money for what I use it for.

I just finished reading a ton of reviews on generally every "pocket hose" type out there. Have yet to find one that I would feel comfortable with buying. Even the high dollar gorilla pocket hoses have issues. Another potential issue aside from the bursting is the small orifice they have at the fitting. I assume this is to help keep pressure on the hose when it's in use but sounds like it's also a water flow restriction. Seems the orifice in the fitting is about 1/4" which is pretty small. My opinion right now after all the reading is the hose just isn't up to the job of supplying an RV with water reliably.

The pocket hose is such a great idea but it does fall short for durability as others have attested to. Use it to spray and don't every let it set with pressure on it and no flow.

Thanks for the input! I'll look for a roll flat type.

I have been using the one I have left for the tank flushing, and some older 'official water hoses' for constant water hook up. One of them finally bubbled and sprung a leak too.
