Removing a large mirror!!

I have a large mirror on the wall of our rv that is secured by a very sticky black adhesive that I am having difficulty trying to remove.

Have anyone else had this problem and how did you remove your mirror without breaking it?

Thank you!
  • I used a heat gun and got the glass really hot. The glue got soft and I was able to pry it off with putty knives.
  • I removed mine which was held on with 4 mirror clips and tow strips of double side tape running the length on each side of the mirror. Once I removed the mirror clips, I then used a wide taping knife (used to tape drywall seams and about 8" wide) to slide behind the double side tape as best as possible. I started at the top and worked each side as I moved down. It took maybe 5 minutes and was off,

The worst part on ours was the glue residue left behind. Most of ours is covered with cork board I installed, but still have a bit more to do.
  • I would google wall mirror removal. I understand most use a wire and run it behind the mirror using a see-saw motion across the width. Never tried it myself, but that is the method I would use first if I had to do it. Breaking it first would only complicate the removal.

  • Are you trying to save it, if not what difference does it make? That black sticky glue has to hold it on while taking all those bumpy roads. 52,000 google pages with information to remove glued mirrors.
