Replacing Roof A/C With Dome Question

I'm looking to replace my roof A/C with a dome. The question is, do you think that the cutout would be a standard size that would accept an rv roof dome?
  • Wow, I've never seen a "mini split A/C" before. I want one for the stick house. How can it be installed without refrigeration vacuum pump and other freon handling equipment?
    Where can it be purchased?

I do not believe that a Satellite Dome will keep your trailer cool on the hot days.

I agree. In my shower dome I use a piece of black corrogated plastic which works well. If I can change out the roof a/c for a dome, I want one with a shade. Domes are great for natural light but bad for heat.
  • I think it's a great idea and the mini shouldn't bounce too much. Personally for me I wouldn't do it unless my existing unit broke and I wasn't willing to pay the cost of an exact replacement but those are just my preferences.

Thanks for the answers. I want to remove it because it never gets used. It's too big for the unit, makes too much noise and causes the trailer to drone or vibrate. As mentioned in an earlier thread, I want to install a mini split or highwall on the back bumper. Less btus and much less noise.

    Example

Might be ok but I'd worry about a mini split being damaged by road vibration. They are made to be mounted and not bounced down the road mile after mile.

I've given that some thought too. There should be a way around that. Minisplits are very reasonable here in Mexico. I just bought a 1 ton for another bedroom for $199. A 110 3/4 ton should be about the same. A roof top A/C is $500 or more? I would downsize the roof air just to keep it simple but they don't make the 7400 and 9000 btu anymore.

  • Openings for AC units are the same size as a standard roof vent. If AC is an option, vent is removed and AC installed in the opening.
  • Not a direct answer, but my MH is premiered for a second AC unit and the hole for it is a standard sized vent. Why would you want to eliminate the AC?
