RV Wireless TPMS Systems - which one is preferred

TST and Pressure Pro have a big following. There are some new kids on the block too. I have the TST with the replaceable batteries. I paid about $250 4 years ago for the package with 4 sensors. So far it's been great. Whatever you do, make sure you install metal valve stems.

TST 507 with replaceable batteries. Going on three years now, great system. Would buy it again if necessary.

+1 for the TST system. 3.5 years on ours w/out any issue.

I wouldn't for a second consider a system that didn't provide temperature monitoring too (the pressure pro doesnt). Monitoring the temperature will alert you to more than just a potential tire failure - it could be a sign of sticking brakes (over use of brakes) or bearing failure.

I to use the (screw on) user replaceable battery sensors. Ive been able to buy batteries for a little as 34 cents a piece (including shipping)....I leave the sensors on 24/7 (on both the coach & our jeep wrangler/toad). You can extend the battery live by removing them - since they only transmit when screwed down tight.

I find that batteries last about a year, sometimes slightly longer.

they offer, flow thru sensors, non-user replaceable batteries, and in tire sensors (the factory replaceable battery units reportedly last 5 years & then are returned for replacement at about 20 bucks iirc).

the peace of mind of any TPMS systems is HUGE.

I was spending a lot of time dragging equipment out just to CHECK the tire pressures....most times i did this unnecessarily (didn't need to add any air pressure)...and too many times i just didn't bother to check the tires (BAD)....now all i do is turn the monitor on & only then (if needed) do i drag out a hose!

Ron - Why is it imperative to have metal stems? Only thing I can think of is galvanic corrosion action in way of the threads. If that is the case then as long as you get similar thread metals you will reduce (can never eliminate unless you get exactly the same material) the corrosion.

No, you do not need special valve stems, but you do need commonly available metal valve stems.

The added weight of the sensor on a rubber valve stem could cause problems that will be avoided by using metal valve stems.

Most motorhomes and commercial transport vehicles come equipped with metal valve stems. If you do need metal valve stems, they are not expensive; a recent customer had 6 valve stems replaced on a 30’ gooseneck racing trailer for $36. They are available and can be quickly installed by any tire dealer.

So if I install them, that would be a good time to get all 4 tires balanced as well.

i don't have special valve stems on our Jeep Wrangler Toad...never had an issue !

Another vote for TST. They have taken great care of me as a customer. That is worth a lot in this day and age.

Actually, TST told me I could run mine with the rubber stems and I did that for almost a year and noticed the sensors were flopping back and forth enough to leave marks on the wheels. It later cracked a valve stem. I went to metal stems after that and 2 others were ready to crack. The consensus is you should use metal stems.

I guess you can use them with rubber stems, but not for long IMO. Great product otherwise.

I have the Tireminder with replaceable batteries and it doesn't need special metal valve stems and has sensors with matching thread materials for both brass and aluminum/steel valve stems. The sensors are very easy to put on and take off for storage. I also like it's very small and compact readout unit.
